Doctor Who Mini-Episodes - the Night Series

Post by Broomstick »

A link to "Night and the Doctor", a series of mini-episodes. They are "Bad Night" (Rory! She's having an EMOTION!), "Good Night" (You're trying to conceal a euphonium. Guiltily. Has that ever been attempted before?), "First Night" (I'm on the first night of 12,000 consecutive life sentences), "Last Night" (You know what this thing does to my hair/It's always like that) and "Up All Night" (which is really a cut scene from an episode and has jack to do with the other four).

My take-away points:

1) Someone has figured out Matt Smith looks hot in top hat and tails and will use any excuse to dress him up in them.
2) We learn why human memories are so faulty - they aren't, it's the universe that's screwed up
3) It is confirmed that the Doctor has plenty of off-screen adventures, both with and without his current companions.
4) Someone needs to translate "helter-skelter" and "hen night" from British to American English for me (thank you in advance).

I really do think Matt Smith's change of expression while other characters are speaking, really showing some internal emoting, is part of why his version of the Doctor comes off so well.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. A hen night is the female equivalent of a stag night. Helter skelter is some weird shit about a roller coaster.
Baltar: "I don't want to miss a moment of the last Battlestar's destruction!"
Centurion: "Sir, I really think you should look at the other Battlestar."
Baltar: "What are you babbling about other...it's impossible!"
Centurion: "No. It is a Battlestar."

Hen night - Womens night out before she gets married, typically involves getting dressed up, drunk and hiring a stripper.

Isn't helter skelter also words from a Beatles song which Charles Manson interpreted that as a sign of a race war or some rubbish like that?

Yep - in the US "helter-skelter" is almost entirely conflated with the Manson murders. It was quite jarring for me to hear it in the mini-episode and it took a few beats for the brain to realize that it was another one of those things that are different on each side of the big pond.
