Doctor Who: "The Masters Of Luxor"

Post by Patrick Degan »

I found this on YouTube during a search for Doctor Who fanvids by the group The Projection Room. It's a production of the unmade 1963 serial "The Masters Of Luxor" which was written by Anthony Coburn as a follow-up serial to "An Unearthly Child" but which was shelved in favour of "The Dead Planet", the serial which introduced the world to the Daleks. For what it is, the four episodes are quite well-made, done in monochrome and in the style of the programme in that time, with each episode having its own individual title. One of the few modifications to the scripts are the Doctor now being Susan's uncle rather than her grandfather to compensate for the casting of a much younger actor in the part.

I don't have time to watch it now, but my first impression after the initial five minutes is wondering if this fan group actually had a higher special effects budget than the 1963 BBC did....

Thank you, I look forward to seeing it in its entirety.

I remember reading the script release in the Ninety's, its an interesting what if, what if masters of Luxor had been made instead of the Daleks, would Dr who have been as successful?
