Mother forces 8yo Son to confront Bachmann

Post by Crossroads Inc. »

While I am all for making Bachmann look like a fool, the following incident, from Yahoo News
Makes me more then bit uncomfortable.
GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann learned that protesters often come in adorable packages. A video captures the Minnesota congresswoman greeting 8-year-old Elijah and his mom at a signing event for Bachmann's book, "Core of Conviction: My Story," in South Carolina.

The candidate, who is an outspoken opponent of same-sex marriage, met her match with the soft-spoken, pint-sized activist. The video shows Bachmann leaning in to listen closely as the youngster whispers,
"My mommy's gay, but she doesn't need fixing."
Bachmann bolts back up and manages a "bye bye" as mother and son walk away.

This isn't the first time that Bachmann has faced challenges to her stand on gay rights from the younger set. Last week, Bachmann was questioned by a teen about her opposition to gay marriage.
You can watch the video of Bachmann and 8-year-old Elijah in the video above.
The video that is on the linked article shows the kid to be VERY unforgettable and really doesn't seem to want to talk.
Again, while I am all for calling Bachmann out on her rampant homophobia and bigotry, the incident felt more then a little staged by the mother.
As much as I would hope that an 8yo would have the where with all to confront an asshat like Bachmann, it just doesn't seem ot be the case here and may be one of those thing things that hurts the Equal Rights movement then helps it.

It's called 'wherewithal', and you'd be surprised. I don't know which of my siblings it was, but during that age one of them had been dragged off to church by my parents. In the middle of service, she'd asked "mommy, does God exist?" One startling revelation later, she'd proceeded to holler "God isn't real mommy, he" (meaning the priest) "just thinks He is!" In front of the whole congregation.

Moral of the story: 8-year olds can be indignant about things, too. In fact, they're often sticklers for propriety.

It's not uncommon for children to actively oppose stuff they see everyone is doing for the sole reason to interact with someone (and learn something). It's not even wrong, can be embarassing though.

Although in this case it seems more like staged. I'd also like to know who was the camera owner. If he was not Bachmann's staff I'd be 99% sure it was staged.
I'm nobody. Nobody at all. But the secrets of the universe don't mind. They reveal themselves to nobodies who care.
