There are several Romanov groups running around in Russia and aboard. But given the nature of their support base in Russia, it's probably best that they stay ex-Imperials.

That was polite. I'd be more like "the support base of the Romanovs are mostly russian neo-nazis too shy to shout their Heils but bold enough to hate "darkies" and dream of the Russian Empire reborn". Or radical nationalists. Something like that.

I was feeling unusually generous yesterday.

I thinking of the Romanov partisans as being a bunch of reactionary, returned emigres who want to have fancy titles and go off to war with their Cossack friends and skinhead toadies in Central Asia to be cut down by British Chinese machine guns or pogroming Jews Tajiks only to be set ablaze by Molotov cocktails.

What proportion of them favor constitutional monarchy over absolute? What kind of constitution, as a rule?

(These are neutral questions; I'm honestly curious)

Most of them are not in favor of constitutional monarchy. Since that's democracy. And they don't like democracy.

From what I remember (sorry, it's been a while since I've read anything on the matter), roughly two-thirds of those who support a Romanov restoration favour a constitutional monarchy over an absolute one. However, those who would be considered partisans rather than just idiotic nostalgists vastly favour an absolute monarchy simply because of how much they despise democracy as a form of government. Details on what such a constitutional monarchy would entail doesn't really exist as even supporters of such a measure have their own ideas of what that means. In the past, such groups have been so disjointed and ill-formed that there were no real details available besides a pining for the restoration of the Russian Empire and a chance to shout about hating non-whites.

But as I say, it's been a while since I did any real reading on the matter and perhaps such groups have managed to put a better pretence of civility these days. Maybe someone else will have more information on that front.

EDIT: Beaten to the punch. Sorry about that.

Not surprising. The bitter irony is that by the end, the Romanovs themselves had become reconciled to constitutional monarchy... They might not like it, but they'd learned to their cost that the average Russian was no longer willing to tolerate a government which outright treated the average Russian as a victim or slave.

Basically there's two positions among the monarchists:

1) Nicholas never renounced throne and never settled for the constitutional monarchy, it was all a plot and fake by the international Jew-Masonic conspiracy godless materialist plotter's forces to bring about the end of the Orthodox Third Rome (all documents are liberal or bolshevik fakes, all witnesses are fake et cetera)

2) Nicholas II was a fool, a dumb weakling who brought the great Empire to ruin by his stupid experiments with democracy - another more authoritarian Czar (or simply a right-wing dictator like Kolchak or Franco) would do much better, the Russian Empire would still rule

As you can see, neither of the positions can be reconciled with a democratic society.
