Grr... This is basically what happened:
A friend of mine entrusted another mutual friend to give me a manga book... She's mentioned giving a manga book before, but not recently (As in the last few days). So, anyways, my friend gets the book. During 5th period, he drops it on my desk before I get there, and when I get into his proximity I hear him speaking. I can't hear a damn thing, and can't even recognize most of the words, and after a sentence, he just walks away without saying anything else. I assume that he was talking to somebody else in close proximity to my seat, and when I see the manga on my desk, I assume that it was left over by somebody from a previous period (After all, Anime/Manga is extremely popular at my school. Offhand, I'd say that nearly 1/4 of the people read/see it) I flip through the manga a bit, and it seems to one of those girly romance ones, not the type that my friend usually reads. Eventually, I just place it on the empty seat behind me, thinking that whoever left it would eventually come back to get it. Class and the rest of the school day passes, and my friend doesn't mention anything about giving the manga. I come home, logon to AIM, then my friend asks if I recieved the manga she entrusted her friend to give me. I'm bewildered, since nobody gave me one. She starts a chat room then I finally figure out that the manga on my desk was actually intended for me. From that point on, my friend keeps dodging responsiblity, which seems to be his only purpose. He ignores the fact that I never acknowledged him talking to me and that I wasn't expecting any manga book anyways. The owner of the manga wants both of us to pay if it's lost (Which I see as fair), but the other person keeps insisting that I was the only one solely at fault and refuses to take any responsiblity.
I've already promised to check with the teacher to see if it was recovered, and if not, I promised to pay for it...
What really pisses me off is that the other person just keeps denying all responsibility... Sorry if I'm ranting, but I just needed to get this off my chest.

Why on Earth would you pay for the manga book? If you story is true you clearly are not to blame for the loss of the manga comic.
