WI: Star Trek Gets A New Beginning

Post by Gurgeh »

I have this on the SB forum and this is inspired by a post on AH.com and a story here: http://www.alternatehistory.com/discuss ... +Beginning

But what if. Our Earth as of January 18th 2012 was suddenly taken to the ST universe during the events of First Contact 2063? How will we adapt to being in the ST universe? Will we get along with other races?

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the first contact event happen because someone built and used a warp drive? which the Vulcans detected and figured well we're going to have to deal with them sooner or later so we might as well do this now, and then the trek nerd was born*?

P.S. as far as I now we currently have no warp drives*

^ Well this is what would happen if our Earth ISOTed ST Earth during the time when Zefram Cochrane did the first warp flight during the events of First contact. And to make things even more weirder the Enterprise E is there as well.

So this happens right as Cochrane is in space? or right after he gets back and right before Enterprise E leaves? because either way some one is going to be wondering what the hell is going on, and probably try to fix it.

Okay, after the initial "WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO THIS TIME Q?" Shock wore off, and everyone figured out this wasn't going to get undone. I'm also assuming since the Enterprise-E has no way to get home, they decide to work with Earth and the Vulcans to move things towards making a new UFP.

Humanity just go confronted with the fact that
a) - FTL is possible, and so is all of the technobabble from Star Trek (hopefully, this is a functional version of Star Trek without all those bugs in the tech)
b) - Aliens exist, and apparently we know about a whole shitload of them.
c) - Q exists, and may be in charge of the afterlife.

Earth now has a ship far more advanced then anything out there, with the possible exception of the Borg.

To me, the sensible thing to do would be;
1 - Work towards a unified world government. The Enterprise should have all the records on how things were fixed.
2 - Send out probes to confirm this wasn't the Enterprise-E, Vulcan Ship, and the Phoenix getting chucked into our universe.
3 - Start uplifting humanity and Vulcan technologically, while contacting the other founding species of the Federation, and allies as well to give the entire idea of the UFP a kick in the ass and speed things up. Possibly avert a few wars as well.

i.e No wars with the Klingons, as they no know how to do First Contact with them properly (and can send Worf as an ambassador)

If played out right, this could result in a 'new and improved' UFP, with Enterprise-E era technology before the time of Captain James T Kirk.

However, knowing our luck......
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

This is probably more interesting if the Enterprise E ISN'T left behind-simply beaming Geordi and Riker up and leaving after they land the warp ship . It would allow Earth to develop 'naturally' as it would have without WWIII but having gained warp drive. Cochrane lands in Bozeman, the Vulcans follow.

Remembering that Cochrane is still from the future, his ship must also contain lots of things beside warp drive that are useful. Either an advance fission, fusion, or antimatter reactor. Computers. And Cochrane also has knowledge of future science.
