Is it a Trap?

Post by Butterbean569 »

I'm all for a war against Iraq. However......

What if the whole thing is a trap? What if Saddam has Baghdad rigged with a nuke to vaporize our troops....or he has bio weapons hidden in the desert to release on his own people or something? Of course we will smash Iraq easily...but I have a bad feeling that there's some sort of trap or somethin

The big trick is the fact that America won't just walk into Iraq and have a good ole fashioned texas shoot'em up and then leave. Be prepared to commit troops for a long time for the region to stabilize and to protect the new puppet regime.

Quite true -- and if we have to go into a MOUT battlefield in Baghdad, it will get ugly and a lot of US troops are going to die. The US hasn't seen that in a long time, so it will come as a shock to many. Our victory is inevitible, but it could prove quite costly.

I seriously doubt its some massive trap. I dont expect all that many US troop to die in Baghdad simply because they wont be sent in.

I would highly doubt Saddam is competant enough to set something like that up. Plus the fact that we're not gonna just ride in there on the back of tanks waving the american flag at the Iraqi citizens...

The Coalition had the same concern during the first Gulf War. The top brass were concerned that the Iraqi Army's open western flank was guarded by a hidden nuke somewhere, waiting for the US Army to roll upon it. Obviousily, this was not the case, and the Army swept across the desert and routed the Republican Guard

I wouldn't put it past him to unleash chemical or bio weapons onto US soldiers and his own civilians, but our people are trained in such contigencies. Thousands of Iraqis would certainly die, but Saddam would lose all his support if this happened. He would suffer the same fate of Moussilini if his people ever got ahold of him.

Well, he might not have nukes, and if he does, he'll only have a few, and they probably won't be used against troops. Bio-weapons may be more likely, but I'll still doubt it.

The big question is whether its the green wire, or the red wire. Green? Red? *stares at either one, shaking head back in forth really fast*

If they cut the wrong one, they all die. Can they make it? Will they cut the right wire?

*10 seconds on the clock begin to count-down. They slowly, painfully so, approach the wire with their scissors...*

5...Decisions...4...what about the wife and kids?...3...will I ever see them again?...2....Aw fuck it! *cuts red wire, and bomb timer stops*

And people sayIwatch too many movies. :D

*10 seconds on the large, red, ditigital clock begin to count-down. They slowly, painfully so, approach the wire with their scissors...*

9...8...They fool with the wires a bit, turning them in their hands "Green or red?" they ask control. "Best guess" the answer comes. 7...6..."Well, isn't this just great?"

5...Decisions...4...what about the wife and kids?...3...will I ever see them again?...2....Aw fuck it! *cuts red wire, and bomb timer stops*

For a moment, there is absolute silence, then, they stand and say "Let's go home." Control erupts into a cheering mob, while our hero slowly walks out to see his wife leap off the helicopter and run to him.
I added the stuff in red.

Seriously:

The fastest and most effective way to disarm a nuclear weapon is to shoot it with an antiarmor weapon. An antitank missile will work quite nicely as will a main gun round from a tank. The explosion will spread radioactive material throughout the immediate area but the bomb will be in no fit state to detonate.

Reality. Not coming soon to a movie near you.

Well I don't think they could have done that to a naquadah enhanced nuke in that stargate episode with the naquadah asteroid. Of course they could have just smashed the electronics, though it seemed to be purposely made tamperproof.
