A pro-Newt Gingrich robocall accuses Mitt Romney of forcing Holocaust survivors to eat non-kosher food.

Via The Huffington Post, the call expands on a claim Gingrich has been making on the campaign trail, off a New York Post report that as Massachusetts governor, Romney cut a program for kosher food for elderly Jews under Medicaid.

As governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney vetoed a bill paying for kosher food for our seniors in nursing homes. Holocaust survivors, who for the first time, were forced to eat non-kosher, because Romney thought $5 was too much to pay for our grandparents to eat kosher. Where is Mitt Romney's compassion for our seniors? Tuesday you can end Mitt Romney's hypocrisy on religious freedom, with a vote for Newt Gingrich. Paid for by Newt 2012.

UPDATE: Gingrich said he had "no idea" about the robocall this afternoon, per the Los Angeles Times:

Newt Gingrich denied any knowledge Tuesday of a robocall hitting Florida households that accuses rival Mitt Romney of forcing Holocaust survivors to eat non-kosher food.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said three times, speaking to reporters as he left Fred’s Southern Kitchen. “Can’t comment on something I don’t know about.”
Then he added, “You might check and see whether the accusation is true.”

The longer this race goes on the more I think Romney might have lost the election by getting under Gingrich skin and turning him from opponent into Mortal Enemy Who I Will Make Rue the Day He Crossed Me.

Romney is ahead in Florida by a comfortable margin, and oddsmakers line InTrade and 538 put his odds at 97-98% to win FL. In my opinion, Gingrich's superpac is playing a dangerous game with these kinds of attacks as I think they will see it backfire.

Backfire how? This is Newt's big chance to take the Presidential nomination and while he might have started this campaign as a money making scheme at some point he became convinced he could win the nomination and thus the Presidency and you saw his entire campaign change into a series one. Then he did okay in the first two states and won South Carolina. He's in it to win it and unless he's going to be bought off by someone (Like the Koch Brothers) the chances are he might make a try to go all the way. Because of the much fewer winner take all states we might see a circumstances where Mittens has to start winning by 51% or better in order to tie up the 1.2k delegates he needs for an automatic win on the nomination.

Were I the Democratic machine I'd be funding Gingrich via super-pacs as long as possible and by that I mean make awesomely terrible Romney attack adds via super pacs who are labeled as Pro-Gingrich in the media.

The problem is that people always say that they are tired of attack ads, but attack ads work. You just have to look at the approval numbers (or better the disapproval numbers) to see that.

And this is why attack ads won't go away any time soon.

Found the quote I was looking for, Chuck Todd the most useless member of the on camera crew on MSNBC pointed out today that if Romney won 100% of the delegates from here on in, it would not be until the April 24 primaries that he could win the needed votes to secure the nomination. If he only won 60% of the delegates from here in it would be June 5th before he could secure the nomination. Since Paul won't get out that leaves a lot of time for a not Romney to win enough states to make it impossible not to go to a brokered convention since Paul is going to be picking up 10%-20% per state and thus 1 or 2 in the small states, and five to ten in the large ones that are all proportional. Only California is a large state with winner take all. And that's a June 5th state.

He is a nice guy but he's establishment to his core. Meaning if a politician lies to his face he nods and goes onto his next question. As a White House Reporter he spends 90% of his time just transcribing what is told to him and reporting it as news. When he does push back you can tell he's never been trained in anything so in the rare times he asks a semi-tough question he backs towns instantly.

Also he po-po the Colbert Super-pac and was offended it was making a mockery of the political system... Which was the entire point of the then "Defiantly not Coordinating with Steve Colbert Super Pac"

I'd disagree with you, everyone posting so far underestimates how much apathy there is for Mittens on the right. They would elect Newt or Santorum (But not Paul) if given half a chance. To many Republican votes are still voting strategically convinced that Mittens has the best chance to beat Obama.

True... But at the same time the part establishment has closed ranks around Mittens as it has come to realize what a loose canon he is.

Mitt has had more and more big names endorsing him, his coffers swell with countless millions upon millions more then newt, and the Establishment is helping his grassroots members more and more.

Personally I see this as an interesting test case, to see if "The People" can actually energize enough to overcome the raw, rampant monolith of Big money and "the establishment"

If New can pick up steam again Ill be surprised.

The only reason that Newt was/is competitive for so long is that he has the support of one multi-billionaire couple who has funded Newt's Super-PAC almost entirely on their own - to the tune of $10 million in January alone.

I cannot speak for the others when it comes to Chuck Todd, but as for me: Since he is a journalist, his winning smile and spotless teeth are not as affecting to me as his opposition to investigations into torture by the U.S. simply because it would make us look bad, and otherwise toeing the political establishment line (as journalist Glenn Greenwald explains in the following article): http://www.salon.com/2009/07/15/todd/singleton/ To me, no matter how nice he acts and looks, his undying loyalty to the elites, whatever their crimes, is a heavy rot I see whenever he is on screen.
