Yes, its the same melody, but IIRC its played as more of a (gay) march in TNG and much more solemn in TMP.

The opening credits to TMP are the same as TNG. Practically. On the TMP soundtrack, "The Enterprise" is the more majestic rendition. And please note my restraint at your use of the word "gay". Heroic of me, isn't it.

People seem, to me at least, to be under the impression that TNG's theme is original in this discussion.

Don't get upset just because of homonyms. 'Gay' has several completely definitions remember?

I was 90% sure of what you meant. I added that little tag just to make sure.

The Klingon Empire has a good theme.

And gay has two dictionary definitions, happy and homosexual. try to not be an offensive twirp. I even know people that skip over gay and just call things homosexual and it irks me to no end.

I would have to go with any Goldsmith theme, that does use the TOS Fanfare. He doesn't need it. That's why I the TMP main title theme as it is heard in the film.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Learning To Fly" fits the opening montage almost perfectly. The beats match the cuts and the lyrics coincide with the imagery onscreen. The song is a bit longer than the intro....

Try it. Watch the intro on mute while playing the song. It would have been much better, IMO. [/b]

The DS9 theme is the only one that I can't remember offhand.
