First Star Trek Sequel set pictures.
Here we are then, the first set pictures of the Star Trek sequel, whatever it may be called. It shows Benedict Cumberpatch's character in a bit of a tiff with Spock.

Thoughts? A few people in the comments think it's Sybok, but I'm sceptical, mostly due to the lack of Vulcan ears on Cumberpatch

Yeah, I've always taken the subtext of the Birther movement to be, "The rules don't count here! This is different! HE'S BLACK! BLACK, I SAY! ARE YOU ALL BLIND!?

Plus as someone has mentioned, Cabbagepatch is sporting a Starfleet logo on his shirt. (at least his stunt double is. )

And, after a bit of google-fu, I saw a picture of Mr.C himself sporting it, so it's probable that he's playing some sort of renegade Federation officer.Enigma wrote:Plus as someone has mentioned, Cabbagepatch is sporting a Starfleet logo on his shirt. (at least his stunt double is. )
(EDIT: Just realised I stated the absolute bloody obvious here. Oh well...)

Anyone from Kirk's past from TOS fit the bill?
He looks like he is returning some nerve pinching on Spock's hand there.

Any Spock villains we know of other than Sybok?

I hear Spock's Brain is pretty bad villain.

There's not much reason to believe that the villain has any special connection to Spock.Enigma wrote:Any Spock villains we know of other than Sybok?
Regarding the OP, I also really, really doubt they'd use Sybok, because of how near-universally hated Star Trek V is. I doubt they'd want to be associated with that film.
In answer to what Chimaera said about rogue Starfleet characters, TOS has quite a number of them as I recall.
However, I think there's a decent chance that this is an original character. Nero was, after all. Its a reboot- they don't need to, and arguably shouldn't, reuse old ideas.

Worst idea ever and i hope its wrong. They've rescued khan and dressed him in a starfleet uniform. Didn't he wear a starfleet jumpsuit in Space Seed? not the actual uniform just the suit background techs wore sometimes.

Re: First Star Trek Sequel set pictures.
Hmm...I saw those pictures on Yahoo on Saturday. Now personally, I'm hardly an expert on Kirk-era Trek, but the general consensus among my friends who are fans is that the villain is Gary Mitchell. Which, from my (admittedly limited) knowledge of TOS works. Unless you want to bring in 'renegade SF officer of the week' into it, Gary is about the only TOS officer who could work. Then again, they may shock us and go with a new villain. I certainly hope they do (I don't want TOS redux, even if I haven't seen most of it). And to be quite honest I hope my friends are wrong...we don't need an 'omnipotent' ( ) being for an enemy (Trek abuses that word so much...).

Why would a new villain be so surprising? They had a new villain for the last film. A reboot should do things differently, not just ape what came before.

^ Well of course it shouldn't be surprising. But I lost faith in Hollywood a long time ago. Call me a pessimist, I freely acknowledge that when it comes to the film industry I am. And Nero was the odd one out as far as reboot villains go.

Re: First Star Trek Sequel set pictures.
Whoever it is, I don't think it's Gary Mitchell. Last year they started publishing a comic series which depicts TOS stories as they happened in the Trek '09-verse, and Mitchell appeared in the first one. Since Kurtzman and Orci are creative consultants on the comics, I think they'd have vetoed a Mitchell story if they were intending to have him in Star Trek XII.
Re: First Star Trek Sequel set pictures.
Mitchell was just a dude unless BY SOME STUPID AND IMPOSSIBLE CHANCE they happen to end up in the same place and time exactly as the previous Enterprise... except oops, Mitchell won't even be bridge crew now.

Re: First Star Trek Sequel set pictures.
Hey, I did say it was my friends who thought it could be Mitchell. I don't know enough about TOS-era Trek (beyond the movies anyway) to guess. I just relayed my friends guess here to see what people thought. And considering he was already taken care of in the comics (which I also didn't know about) that problem is solved.

My first thought is "holy shit they're going to redo 'Amok Time'" or something.
Otherwise it seems to suggest starfleet is fighting agianst someo other (human?) group this time. Superhumans perhaps?
