Mercedes publicity campaign with "invisible" car
I'll begin by saying that "invisible" in the title is a misnomer entirely.
It's a rather ineffective real-world implementation of the common sci-fi concept of having cameras on one side of an object being used to project the image to the other side to get a camouflage effect. From what I can see in the video, it only has a camera on the right side of the car, which projects it to the LED screen on the left side.

Just thought it'd be interesting.

Uh, I guess the fact that it's a hydrogen fuel cell powered vehicle with a 600+ (?) kilometer range might interest some folks more though.
It's using tanks of hydrogen that are pressurized to 5000 PSI at full capacity, though. Isn't that somewhat dangerous?

So, they rip off BAE's legit military development for a cheap and not all that effective marketing stunt? Colour me shocked.

This is pre-WWII. You can sort of tell from the sketch style, from thee way it refers to Japan (Japan in the 1950s was still rebuilding from WWII), the spelling of Tokyo, lots of details. Nothing obvious... except that the upper right hand corner of the page reads "November 1931." --- Simon_Jester

It's just dumb. Who would want an invisible car? I have enough trouble finding where I parked as is.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.
You win. There, I have said it.
Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

Just set the car alarm to make the whole thing strobe when you beep it.Purple wrote:It's just dumb. Who would want an invisible car? I have enough trouble finding where I parked as is.

Re: Mercedes publicity campaign with "invisible" car
Fortunately, they aren't marketing an invisible car. Seems to be just some cheesey "invisible to the environment" marketing for their fuel cell car. I'm surprised that fuel cell cars are still being pushed/made, I thought everyone was going for hybrids or pure electrics these days.Purple wrote:It's just dumb. Who would want an invisible car? Re: Mercedes publicity campaign with "invisible" car
i think it's because of the 5000psi hydrogen tank, that thing would cause quite a boom if breached.
If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?

Re: Mercedes publicity campaign with "invisible" car
It's not that invisible either considering we make our hydrogen out of natural gas using a electricty grid thats mostly coal/gas fired supplied.Seems to be just some cheesey "invisible to the environment"

Re: Mercedes publicity campaign with "invisible" car
That video on "Adaptiv" that Skgoa posted is pretty interesting.. but doesn't blocking IR emissions from a vehicle also mean the Adaptiv blocks will trap more heat in the vehicle? Although on second thought I would think that radiation may not be that significant for heat dissipation compared to exhaust gases and convection from the surrounding atmosphere, for a ground vehicle..
It still takes its energy off the dirty power grid.
Honestly I can't take my mind off what would happen if the high-pressure hydrogen tank was ruptured and combusted
Lol I just caught that.
Yeah, it's just marketing bullshit. No surprise, I suppose.Darth Tanner wrote:It's not that invisible either considering we make our hydrogen out of natural gas using a electricty grid thats mostly coal/gas fired supplied.Seems to be just some cheesey "invisible to the environment"
