But I believe the Iraqi defenition of "carpet bombing" is tossing explosives from a magic carpet in the sky. But, once we burn he carpets, the Iraqi Air Force is down. Then, we'll have to worry about those genies they have.

Saddam's probably putting a lot of faith in his French buddies to keep him safe. Maybe Tom Ridge though should tell Iraqi citizens to buy up duct tape and plastic sheets.

I think it might be a trap, but probably not a physical one. Bush seems to be strolling merrily down the road to totally flushing America's world image down the toilet. We're already despised by a few countries, but wait! Here comes Bush Jr.! He'll press on for military force whether it's really still necessary or not!

I'm not completely up to speed on the latest developments, but my impression was that the threat of war was useful in forcing Iraq to comply with Bush's demand for disarmament -- and that purpose appears to have been served. The only thing I'm not sure on, with Mr. Blichs's report and then yesterday's update, is whether Iraq is actually disclosing their weapons information and complying with disarmament or not. Fill me in.

The point of all this being that if war isn't necessary and we do it anyway, over the objections of the majority of the other nations on this planet, we're basically going to look like the Fourth Reich. The real trap was 9/11. Bush Sr. faced down an Islamic country. Bush Jr. gets elected, and an Islamic terror group decides to launch an audacious operation on U.S. soil that it konws will push his button and provoke him into action in the Middle East. Bush is pissed at the Middle East, and suddenly Iraq looks pretty juicy. Of course the Iraqi government has been fudging on compliance with U.N. resolutions and covering it. So here we are, with the Bush Administration frothing at the mouth, ready to Blitzkrieg Iraq.

That is all, however, idle speculation. The hard predictions are that we'll stomp Iraq and come out looking like villains. Whether or not these events were engineered to produce the latter result really doesn't matter.
