As I am forced(For now) to hold the outside view, I am noticing an interesting trend for Westwood. The first game with a new engine never takes full use of it, both in missions and in mechanics, and is always burned for it(Okay, not true in the original C&C in the burning part). The second, the two Red Alert titles, seem to have the 'Okay, the code runs. Let's play a little' mentality. Of course, we still wind up with vast amounts of unused code(Download the officially-supported freeware map maker for RA2 and look at all the things that can be done, but weren't), but it seems like they have a habit of pussyfooting into a new engine.
The CD copy protection is just a fact I'm learning to live with. Of course, I would not go to gamecopyworld and seek a fix, that would be illegal. While I dislike many of Sierra's practices, I urge WeeMad to look to it when Homeworld 2 announces Relic's return to the stadium.
And, finally, none of this nonsense applies to my Final Fantasy addiction. VivaSquaresoft!

Best thing EA has done has been Medal of Honor...
Sierra isn't worth crap, though. They have the WORST tech support ever. I have had problems with Half-Life, but have yet to hear back from them, and I bought B17: The Might Eighth, but it wouldn't run on XP (What is it, a year old?), and they said they weren't planning on patching it to run in XP. Bastards. Put out a crappy program that won't run on what will be the most used OS in the next couple years, and they won't even upgrade it to run on it! Last time I will buy a Sierra, unless they REALLY make a good game to redeem themselves.

Personally my only beef with Squaresoft is their bitchass fucktardness with making one pay 40 fucking dollars for game that are as old as dirt and NOT BRING FF3?!
And I don't mean FF6...I mean the NES FF3(which started the job system and had some bitchin music...crappy storyline, but kickass game nonetheless)
That and FFX-2 seems a little too fucking grubby.
Overall I still like them and wonder what the merger will bring...but most every company I have some grip...but Nitram brought up Square and I saw what they did with the Wonderswan's FF1&2 and had to let off some steam.

And EA sucks mucho balls given how they handle Sports games.
I used to actually like them until they became mirror copies since 96.

Madden games havebecome a travesty in which some players are overpowered given the amount of hype they got on sprtscenter the year prior.
Take the fact that Terrell Owens has consistenly outperformed Randy Moss. But try and throw any sort of pass pattern his way in the games and its no different from throwing it to an unnamed rokkie fifth stringer. Throw it to the left side of the field and Randy Moss will catch it from the right sideline.
now in 2003 they have compeltely forsaken the Vikings because they suck and are no longer the team of the momnet, no instead the power up the Rams who end up playing like SHIT!
Truth be told I haven't enjoyed a Madden game since Madden 64 came out. EA has juiced that series so much its like playing NFL Blitz. Hmmm lets see 75 points to ZERO with 600 plus yards offensse on the more difficult levels using Detroit against Green Bay. Well shit something be wrong there fellas!

IMNSHO, Sierra went down the tubes after they were sold off. When Ken & Roberta Williams ran the show things were much better. Anyone remember InterAction?NF_Utvol wrote:Best thing EA has done has been Medal of Honor...

Re: Electronics Arts (EA) sucks shit!!!!!
This is a first for them. EA is also the author of Battlefield 1942, and you only need one purchase of the game for a two player LAN.Darth Wong wrote:Every Command and Conquer game has always had two CD's, both of which were playable. This meant that you could legally run a two-player head to head LAN game with just one copy.
But guess what: with C&C Generals and the acquisition/dissolution of Westwood by EA, the tradition has been broken. Now, the second CD is unplayable, and it demands the first CD. That's the first problem: the two-for-one tradition of Westwood is history. Second problem: it does a serial number check, so if you try to start up a LAN game by transferring the CD to the second machine after the disc check, it will crap out with a "same serial" error and refuse to play.
In short, we have yet another game in which a cracked warez copy will actually be BETTER than a legally purchased copy. It will be more convenient, and you will have the ability to play head to head LAN games. EA quietly fucked over Westwood's loyal customers by dissolving a longstanding policy and not even mentioning it anywhere (of course). I had to lodge two separate tickets with EA tech support in order to get them to confirm that this was even true, the sneaky bastards ...
EA sucks shit!!!!

I had a bunch of games from Sierra On-Line and sent in so many registration cards that I must have had years worth of subcriptions until it finally was shut down.MKSheppard wrote:Yey, I used to get that in the mail! I suspect companies do this because they've spent part of their R&D money on studies that conclude the majority of their customer base is stupid enough not to try and crack the protections, and therefore they can improve sales by adding them. The money spent on those studies, of course, is subtracted from being used to further improve the game.
