US Army acronym question

Post by Brother-Captain Gaius »

All right, I've seen it used officially both ways now -

Is it "HMMWV" or "HMMMV"?

Humvee sounds cool. As does the Hummer.

Its HMMWV, or High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle.

That would have worked well, except for the decade in which both the orginal and Hummer where in service alongside each other.

Officially, it would be Jeep II. Unofficialy, just call it jeep.

And besides, the M48 and M60 served alongside each other and their names were Patton, and no one's head exploded.

A lot of files from the 1950's and 60's are still classified.

Coulda called it "the Jeepster" or just "Dude".

Or "RDNEOT"-- "Replaces Damn Near Every Other Truck"

And the standards that seems to have become adopted:

"Humvee" is the military version; "Hummer" the civilian one.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

The new H2 is just stupid. While the price is down to about 50,000 dollars, in order to make it slightly practical they removed just about all of the of road capability. Little is left but the frame and name of the original.

Of course, all that matters to the dumbass consumers is size, rather than any capability.

Nah, I think it is more about the coolness factor, a big ass hummer does look cool and if you can spare the money to buy one why the hell wouldn't you? I mean is there any practical reason for owning a Ferrari (other then getting chicks)?

Nope. But it's coolness is derived from it's appearance and heritage- wheras the Hummer gets it from sheer size and the false 'it's safe' reasoning.

The Hummer does have that "military feel" to it, about the same end result as the Ferrari's heritage. Never heard of the 'safety factor'.

I think he's referring to the fact that most people associate size with safety in cars. Though unlike your average SUV the Hummer isn't prone to roll over because of its wide wheelbase and low center of gravity. Though I'm sure both where ruined in the H2.

I'd sooner take an orignal Hummer offroad than anything else. Oh, the things I'd do. :D
