The churches of the colour Grue are behind you, Dr. Ulrich von Murderstein. The crossbreeding of Grue with other shades of colours can only improve it's glory.

Cernans, while I suppose are under some peoples definition a product of mad science, aren't fans of it. Their policy is pretty lax just as long as said mad scientist(s) don't try to be taken seriously. If they do, well, the policy for that kind of mad science is significantly less lax, if you get my drift.

The Sqee prefer science to be maintained at a slightly miffed level, although the military will occasionally require science of the reasonably peeved variety.

But we do love nearly any complex obstacle course with cheese at the end...

The League are also a product of substantially mad science, although it was really more desperation science at the time. Call it a fringe branch, the crazy uncle of mad science. They're really quite open to mad science if they trust you, with the caveat that the current list of people they don't instantly aim their brains out of distrust consists of: bees.

Oh, and they barely survived the last bit of mad science, so hands off the gene sequence, bub.

Dr. Murderstein doesn't take himself very seriously. Other people do, especially after the attack noodles.

He neither confirms nor denies the rumor that he was involved in the creation of Ze Bees.

The Gray's are semi-mad science. They do mad science, but they aren't all giggling, UNLIMITED-POWAAAA! types.

They're much more...sinister...about their mad science.

Simon, if it isn't too much trouble could I get an NCP roll for my nation?

Yes. But which nation will he come from this time? There was a excuse for him to be morbidly obese with the MEH.

Possibly important question: Am I allowed a minor re-fluffing of my nation? I decided I want to switch my guys' natural philosophy over from it's-science-but-we-don't-know-it to something like the Ork psychic powers from 40k - if enough Hellens believe space is filled with luminiferous aether, it is, for their purposes, and things like massive catamaran galleys mounting heavy particle cannon function because they refuse to accept the idea that they wouldn't.

Probably. It's not set in stone, yet. I'm thinking of making the Empire more politically corrupt.

Hm.

[takes his modhat off and hangs it on a hook somewhere, this is being said as a player]

I would like to request, personally, that you be careful about this. You're free to do what you want, but by pushing towards the "openly physics-defying," you're somewhat running a risk. The risk is that you may turn a refreshingly-original nation idea into a copycat of an existing concept I don't know if you're aware of, the one that's behind all that bombdiscus crap I've been talking about. I like what you're doing, want to see what happens when the two traditions meet, and if yours moves too far over toward the other, then it will lessen both because of copy-ness, and thus make it all less awesome. To quote a Ben, "And besides, original-crazy is always cooler than copy-crazy."

I would appreciate it if you'd stick to your current basic concept. If you want to do stuff that's awesome but physically implausible, just be... nonspecific. I mean, we already have FTL, relativity, and causality all in the same setting. You don't have to worry too hard about it. But naked defiance of reality risks that undesirable blurring similarity.

Going off of that, take the Old World Blues route. If asked about how something works, just brush it away and say, "We have no idea! This line of questioning isn't important to us now! Why must you ask these tangential questions?! Stop it!" That's what I'm going to do for my Brainiac analog, anyway. A Trek example would be "How does the Heisenberg compensator work?" "It works very well."

Fire a delay-fuzed shrapnel shell- or a bundle of flechettes, with spin imparted to the round as it leaves the barrel, and unbundle the round in lieu of using bursting charges. Problem solved.
