Re: adversaries

If I'm not paired up with Shep, I'll think about it.

Re: Space Sweden

I'll look at your order of battle, but please remember that isolationism is boring. Be on the lookout for ways to inject strangeness into the game, even if your overall nation isn't actually doing very much. Randomly introducing creepy Arcadian Chef or something works, for instance.

There is a difference between being Space Sweden and isolationist. I won't be starting any wars, but that's not to say I won't be hunting down pirates (which are rampant along our Colonies borders) or selling some of my ships out as mercenaries. Plus we occasionally send out exploration fleets. Trust me, I won't be pulling a 'stay in borders and watch the game' type thing here. And really? Arcadian Chef?

Next order of business. Any human dominate power interested in being the primary antagonist of the Hierarchy? I figure there should be someone who represents the primary organized obstacle to their expansion.
I would be, actually. Any interest in being the Persia to my Greece?

Considering that Space Greece (Hellenic Confederacy) probably works better against the Hierarchy, who is willing to be my adversary? It obviously can't be Bastian or the Stellar Nation, but there are plenty of other people. (Note, adversary can mean a lot of things, but in this case it would probably be a cold war).

Well that's an interesting pairing up. We'll give everyone a chance to pitch in an offer first before deciding but we'll certainly consider it so long as you don't go about calling us nymphs.

I suppose I'll take a reciprocal one, too, and hammer out the details later.

I have two trade routes, though I wanted to wait for the map to see what made the most sense.

Darkevilme, I had some ideas for a Volscian nativist movement; I have a feeling that the Chamarrans might look at supporting them, and encouraging them towards more direct action...

I'm always happy to have as many inbound trade routes as possible too!
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

We'll settle for barbarian fiend-lines, instead.

Force Lord, I've got an open trade route, if you like. In a 'nation' as loose as the Confederacy, there's bound to be someone willing to trade with you.

Also, my naval OOB is in the description thread for anyone interested.

Also, let's keep an open mind on trade routes, although I approve of people making them. Remember, we don't have a map yet...

10,000/$1 and x5 and x10 equipment modifiers for the rats? I'd love to hear the rationale behind this, because it seems very counterintuitive considering many of the stereotypes associated with rats.

In other news, the Holy Empire doesn't do much trade with rats or with cats...or with anybody else, for that matter. It kinda fits with the direction I want to take the Holy Empire towards, which basically amounts to Showa era Japan IN SPACE. Many of the elements are already in place, either by deliberate design or by circumstance: Economically isolated, surrounded by hostile or otherwise unfriendly powers, highly militaristic, and dominated by a cult of the state.

Notice the acronym, it is a joke off the Skaven from Warhammer Fantasy who were (haven't really looked for an edition or two) some of the nastiest mofos around. They are the black ops wing of the Sqee military. Power-armored elite troopers who are heavily trained and well-equipped and elite pilots of Battlemice mechs.

Rats actually can be really vicious in reality since they have very sharp teeth and dominate males will literally tear other males apart to maintain their exclusivity for mating. While they usually choose flight for fight/flight response, when they have to fight they are mean little rodents with razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws. My pet rat accidentally drew blood from me a couple of times with playful nips or when I gave him a bath.

It also makes some sense that a highly cautious species would have a force that is designed to strike hard against enemies to quickly bring about cease-fires and that such troops would be heavily trained and equipped with the best kit available. It presents a minimal amount of total lives to lose and can quickly secure an objective. Basically, the Sqee would prefer to pour a ton of money into training and equipping a very small number of troops who can do the kind of dirty work that any major galactic polity needs to get done instead of maintaining a large force of operatives to do such.

@Dark Hellion
I assume even with the whole thing about Bastians being cat people, trade is not out of the question.

At this point in time...it depends. At the very least, I'll have to discuss it with Akhlut, seeing as the Grays have their own designs for the Covenant that most likely won't involve the Screworlders glassing them.

I'd mention trusting the Sobekians but the fact that they're ten-foot-tall reptiles with twelve-inch-long claws probably doesn't make things better.
