Pfft, I'm working on buying an tier 9, the E-75 right now and I haven't spent a dime on the game. Premium and premium tanks would make it too easy.Zinegata wrote:Generally going above Tier 6 means you should probably pay some money, the best investment being to buy a Premium Tier 8.

Hence "generally" and "probably" dude .
I can't play as much so having premiums does help in raising cash with less grind.

Re: World of Tanks
I personally find that the tier 8 premiums do enough moneymaking that all you really need is one of them, and $30 isn't really all that much when you consider it in the framework of a one time purchase for the game. Frankly, I'd have forked over $30 for the game in a heartbeat, I think based on how much I've played it I could justify $100 compared to my other most played game, and basing it on averages... well, I have a large library on Steam and I sure don't have that much time. I think the only game that'd compare on a value basis to tanks for me is one I bought for $7 and have played for 50 hours. I really like WoT, and there's little else that does what it does.
Premium stuff is a huge help from keeping the game from feeling too much like a grind to me. I really like bouncing between tanks and so on, just casually trying new stuff out, and it helps a lot.

Got the IS-4; not sure if I'm gonna play it much though before 7.3 hits. Time to work on getting the cash for the T32 next.
As for tier 8 premiums, besides moneymaking, I have a ton of fun in the Type 59. I'm glad I snagged one before it left the store.

Oh, I agree that one is enough. But the Type 59 can get boring and it's nice to be able to have a change of pacexthetenth wrote:I personally find that the tier 8 premiums do enough moneymaking that all you really need is one of them

Just finished the training and got my Stuart! Russian Tanks are fun, and I'm loving the combat dynamics.
Just had a couple of questions:
Is there a SDN group or something? I'd love to team up with people. Also, can you partner up with people for more than one game, or is it just random?
And, Is the Autocannon option only good at close range?
Thanks.

Re: World of Tanks
There is no SDN clan, but there is an SDN chat channel, though not many people use it. Just search for SDN in the channels tab. With a standard account, you can make a platoon with one other person to fight together, and with a premium account you can have a 3-man platoon.DrMckay wrote:Just finished the training and got my Stuart! Autocannons are only good at extremely close range, and they only show up in some of the earlier tanks. Personally I avoided them like the plague, as regular cannons are far more powerful and they're far more effective at range.
Re: World of Tanks
I'm grinding the KV right now to get a KV3 for that sweet sweet extra garage slot. KV with the 152 is like easy mode. Except for the tier 9/10 matches. Then I get one or two shots off and then die. But still get buckets of XP for it!
Anyone know when 7.3 comes out?

Re: World of Tanks
Aim for lower glacis plates. That belly is the only place you can penetrate anything from the front. The improved 90mm helps a lot here though. Also keep your ass hull down and use your 10 degree gun depression. Never take enemy fire if you can help it. Even though hypothetically your mantlet is somewhat armored, you don't want to chance it.Simon_Jester wrote:Any advice for the Pershing?

Re: World of Tanks
Er, by that you mean "penetrate own-tier or higher opponents from the front," surely? Most lower tier things, with a few legendary, obvious exceptions like the Sherman Jumbo and the T29 turret, I don't have too much trouble penetrating from the front.
Also, is it just me or does the KV-2 turret have a really thick mantlet? Hits that land right around the gun almost always bounce in my experience, even with 107mm and 90mm rounds (the biggest I've thrown).

It is pretty thick, but it's also pretty rounded, so every time you hit it you are likely to be hitting at a shallowish angle. It's not like it matters too much though, that turret has the biggest and easiest to hit weak points in the game.

Re: World of Tanks
Most of my experience where this matters is sniping- I'm firing from too far out to aim for a weak point reliably, even if it's a meter squared.

Re: World of Tanks
Yeah, that can be rough. I find just centring the crosshairs on the turret ring gives the best results, you normally get a hit on the flat portion of the hull with the vision slit and mg ports and should pen with most decent guns there or punch through the turret chin under the mantlet. If I'm too far out to do that I'll normally just hold fire unless I have a gun that can punch through the glacis reliably and can put a round into the hull, although if I have HE loaded I'll have a crack anyway because I have a pretty good shot of knocking out the gun then.

Knocking out the gun on a KV is always good- it's the blasted thing's sole redeeming virtue...

Re: World of Tanks
On that note, is it worth upgrading the 107 on the KV-3 to the 122 or the 100mm? I'm using the 107 with the upgraded turret at the moment and am starting to get enough fights with teir 9 and 10 tanks that it feels positively dinky, even if I do penetrate I seem to at most knock off about 10% HP. The 122 would mean when I do actually hit I'm going to do more damage, which would be nice, but the higher rof on the 100 might make it a decent gun for hunting mediums, I'm just not sure the tank is fast enough or has the traverse speed to do it well.

Re: World of Tanks
use the 122 if you can afford to, and the 100 or 107 if not. i've had a lot of people complain when i run the 100 on it due to how it's stats look compared to the 107, but i like it better. it'g got a bit more pen, fires slightly faster, and is more accurate, sure you're giving up a bit of raw damage but more of it will be getting through and on target.

122 or 107. The 107 has better DPM but the 122 is able to kill T4 lights and T5 SPG with one shot most of the time.

Re: World of Tanks
I'd recommend the 100mm. It's got better pen than the 107 and equal pen to the 122 with better DPM than the 122, better accuracy, and better aim time. That the ammo is a quarter the price is a nice upside as well.Alkaloid wrote:On that note, is it worth upgrading the 107 on the KV-3 to the 122 or the 100mm? Re: World of Tanks
In other words, the rounds cost the same as 107mm, more or less, shoot slightly quicker, and do about 100 points less damage, right?
In my case, I wound up going back to 107mm because I wasn't getting satisfactory results out of either.

107's a good bet but you're going to want to unlock at least the 100 for the IS. The 85mm it starts with is terribad.

Drive it into a corner of the map, turn it so that the rear points towards eventual attackers and turn your cannon outward, lest you accidentally fire on someone.iborg wrote:Anyone has advice on using the Löwe ?
And then let the real tanks play the game like it was intended...
Or you could just use it like any other heavy tank of the German tree...
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay
