as far as the biker:
1 noting under his control fir his lower body (bads and everything) was abusive to the physical therapist (and by extention me her helper) loved ramming people with his chair. the neck surgury did damage his ability to speak but no one was stupid enough to lean close to him. He was in his 20s when I was in my teens. When my foot got broken the physical therpist asked me to use a chair instead of crutches while doinng volunteer work.

General Schatten, Gil Hamilton etc would you be as forgiving?

Please do not see this as a attack or accusation as i respect the hell out of your initial answers and would like to see if they hold if the bar is raised.
Problem is you've gone to far, now your talking about people with bounties on their heads and earning the friendship of Israel, turn in a camp guard gets you a thank you from the Israel and maybe an official letter of thanks from various groups. Turn in someone like Aribert Heim and your talking several million dollars in reward money a free Israeli citizenship and international fame. It no longer becomes a question of do you take pity on the Nazi who might not be mentally all there to would you like a pile of free money and all you have to do is turn in a Nazi.
Then lets say i am putting it forth as a scenario with no financial incentive.

Really, the answer is pretty simple in any case :

Signal the individual to the authorities and go on your way. It is not up to you to judge someone, or act on your personal judgment.
It is the work of the Judicial system to determine someone's guilt, not yours.

What is up to you, as a Citizen, is to criticize the Law if you think it is unfair. But you still have to respect it as long at it isn't criminal in itself.

There are no morale dilemma here, only discomfort.

if a law is unjust then a good person has no choice but to disobey it.

particularly in this case, since prosecuting the old guy will bring no benefit to anyone.

Ignoring it as it is just another normal day in Austria? Calling an ambulance if it was obvious he's too confused to take care of himself?

Hint - in Austria or Germany, you'll find hardly any man that old that wasn't in some kind of Nazi organisation and believed in everything he was told. Every single grampa sitting in the park was working and marching for them, and justifying what they did. All the grannys were cheering for Adolf and most wanted to become Mrs. Führer.

We're more concerned with the young ones trying to revive the 'good old times' - that's why we whack them with the book, hard, whenever we find some crawling out of their hidey-holes.
A minute's thought suggests that the very idea of this is stupid. A more detailed examination raises the possibility that it might be an answer to the question "how could the Germans win the war after the US gets involved?" - Captain Seafort, in a thread proposing a 1942 'D-Day' in Quiberon Bay

I like to think I'd generally fall on the side of cautious optimism and charity. As many have said, there probably isn't a lot I can do to hurt him, and that's even supposing I could know for sure he was a real monster and not a confused old person who used to play a stormtrooper on tv, or an old mostly harmless Nazi living out some fantasy where he embraced the ideals and became an 'elite.'

Were he an infamous war-criminal with a substantial price on his head? Yeah, I'd likely turn him in. i wish I could say that was just because of the added certainty, but I have too many monetary issue that need taking care of, and it is hard to feel bad for anyone who did such horrible things.

I heard a story once that the US government had 30+ SS men in something like Witness Protection, keeping them safe from Mossad. I can't speak to any truth about it, I read a book on the matter that did feel a touch conspiracy theory-y.

Also, when I made the call I'd advise the Israelis not to kill him, as a gesture to the man. If I thought it would preserve his life, i'd point out the entertainment value in a high-level true-believer Nazi living in Israel and constantly forgetting that fact.

You meet an old man in a public park, library ir some such, he's quite clearly suffering and after a bit of listening to him you realize that he's got Alzhiemers dementia, and 60+ years ago he went from hitler youth to low ranking person in an SS unit. What do you feel is the moral thing to do?
Turn him over to the police; it is likely he had wandered from a managed care facility.

And given his late stage of Alzheimer's, he will be extradited to God's White Throne of Judgment pretty soon.
