Of all the stuff he's made the Wing Commander ones seem to draw the fans out of the woodwork more than anything else. I think he's made one more, but there's a lack of decent blueprints available for the ships, and the last time someone requested he make one they sent him to a site filled with tiny blurry thumbnails as reference. Hopeless.
Oh ok. Tell him that he has one more fan... He'll be really cool now. 8) Awful Pun Intended!

Agghh I hate that. You image-Google the name of a ship you want, and all you get is a buncha blurry tiny blobs that only approximate the shape of the ship you want, or you get the same cheesy stock pic over and Over and OVER!!

*gets an idea for a new thread topic*

I'll BRB!

It now tilts, spins and fires like a good'un, I just have to finish texturing it before I do an animation. As for the O-Wing, work proceeds apace. He's sent me pics of the reworked engines and they're looking good. He's busy micro-beveling all the panels and adding detail here and there, pictures when I get another update from him.
Sounds like he's working hard, thanks, and a nice launcher too.

Progress so far on the engines. He's been detailing like a sum'bitch and he reckons he'll get the engines finished soon, then on to the rest. Should be quite high poly when finished, but nice for it.

That's a unfinished engine?? How much more detail can he add without getting down to the micron level?

Seriously, I am staggered by the sheer amount of effort and detail you guys are putting into this.

He has a 'singleness of purpose' that makes him ideal for Star Wars detailing, in that he's mental. Plus the fact that he's been making more SW stuff than anything else recently and he's had a lot of practice at the nurnies these ships require. Myself, I'm been more a Federation Trek modeler over the past couple of years and they always needed much smoother, more refined designs. That's also why I have more texturing experience, those models rely on image maps more than other things due to all the decals and glowing bits. Horses for courses.

You can tell him yourself, he lurks around here to check out what I get up to and to see what's happening around the art forums in general. Here's the finished engine, I suppose I better finish off his Missile launcher now as well. He doesn't expect the body will take quite as long, there's always less detail on the body panels, the engines on SW vehicles usually get the most pipeage per square inch.

Umm, I really hate to point this out to you now that the thing's been detailed and probably frozen, but there's some segmentation in the blue shroud around the intake grill.

Don't throw things at me. :)

Yeah, it's a little overboard for what is after all a fairly low-poly model, but I didn't have the heart to stop him. In animations you'll never notice it :D

In that case, Thank you Alan Hart for taking the time to do all that great detailing.

Sorry about the lack of updates. I seem to have sucked up Kenny's time with our "31st Century Chevy Camaro Project." Anyways, a BIG Hats Off to Alan Hart! Love the Wing Commander ships!

It's not a problem, especially as I like the Civvy ship design (I actually thought th tail was flat from the drawing, and the engine outlet was the same as the Swordfish  ) so don't worry about it.

Yep, For anyone wondering what we're talking about, go here and browse through the meshes, Alan has some nice fighter designs up there. Plus he has some meshes on Kenny's site as well (B5 and general Sci-fi Meshes).

Einhander can suck up all the time he likes, this project is currently in Alan Hart's hands and he's well on the way to completion. He's attached the new, improved engines and has begun final work on the guns and body. He likes the guns, but the body he aint so keen on. Bad Rob! Naughty designer!

LMAO Thanks! I'm trying to be real easy with this. I might want the Ferret next tho :)

Here's a front view of the "real" Ferret to get an idea how the wings and tail work...

EDIT: an a side view.

Note: Obviosly the nose was completely redesigned on my version :)

Then there was the heavy Bomber, and I do mean heavy. It had a stripped down Light/Medium Turbolaser in each wing (with massive grills to provide cooling and wing root reloading doors that would accomodate a man.) The dotted lines show the Weapons dimensions inside the wing, continuing under the Engines. The shaded area is the Cockpit (3 man crew; Pilot, Weapons tech, EW officer) and the R8 Astro mech goes at the rear. The dotted line behind that shows the Bomb bay for the Heavy Concussion Missiles and the weapon in the nose is an Ion Cannon. Basically this is a slow ship that is designed to scare the shit out of Escorts and light Frigates. It needs a serious escort party but 2 bombers is better than having to commit your own Frigates and Escorts to meet the enemy ones.

The C-wing.

Hope you lot can forgive the poor drawing skills. Any modellers that want to take pity on an Artistically challenged person can feel free to use the designs if they wish, just a little credit (or blame depending on your point of view :D ) will make me happy. The rest of you may now point and laugh. :P
I wish I had a scanner. Then I could show you my H-wing.

Do you know anyone with a digital camera? They can take a photo and you have a JPEG of it ready to roll. Or if you work in an office/Uni you should be able to wangle the use of a scanner for the few minutes it takes. Either way, if you do manage to get an image but don't have any web space, PM me and I'll host it for you.
