No earth-shattering political differences between me and my friends, or with our acquaintances either. My whole family is more or less conservative (Surprised yet? ) and has a tendency to vote for the main right wing party here. We'd be squarely in the ultra-left (or near there) on the regular US political chart...

I'm like Coyote in that I do not support any certain position because it's the party line, I want reasons for why or why not it would work, and if it's sensible, it gets my support. That's what I call a moderate approach.

Too bad that in international debates, there tends to be a large number of Americans involved, which tends to shift the definitions used to the American ones, where liberal is a curse-word and moderate is almost as bad. One American friend of mine makes a very sharp distinction between US liberals (the ultra-left type, who he has no use for) and non-US liberals (who he does agree with at least some of the time, though he also disagrees with them a lot).

Yeah, frequently what is right-wing in one country is leftist in another, and vice versa. In the US, the Democrats, liberals, are all about the minorities, the immigrants, welfare, etc... in Israel, the minorities, immigrants, and people on the dole are supporting the right-wing party...

The right wing, Republicans, here are seen as moneyed elite that are into religion. Over in Israel, the moneyed elite are the intellectuals and art snob types that are largely secular. Also, oddly racist-- they look down on the blue collar and immigrants as "rabble".

I think that typical European "rightists" would be "leftists" in the States... and European "leftists" would be called "Communists" in the US... :P
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!
Grrr! Fight my Brute, you pansy!
