Rupert Murdoch Pokes Fun at Tom Cruise, Tweets Scientology Is ‘Very Weird Cult’

News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch took a jab at Tom Cruise on Twitter, calling Scientology a “very weird cult” made up of “creepy” and possibly “evil” people.
Murdoch’s tweets came two days after Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise.

“Scientology back in news. Very weird cult, but big, big money involved with Tom Cruise either number two or three in hierarchy,” Murdoch posted Sunday on his official Twitter feed.
Later he tweeted, “Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people.”

Murdoch’s controversial tweets sparked outrage on Twitter, which prompted him to defend his stance.

“Since Scientology tweet hundreds of attacks. Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening. Still stick to my story.”
Scientology officials have not responded to a request for comment.

Murdoch was asked about his views on Mormonism, which is a subplot in the presidential campaign as Mormon Mitt Romney faces President Obama.

“Mormonism a mystery to me, but Mormons certainly not evil,” Murdoch said.

Cruise and Holmes married in 2005 and have a daughter, Suri. Cruise has already hired Dennis Wasser, the Los Angeles based powerhouse divorce attorney who represented Cruise in his divorce with actress Nicole Kidman.

I realize this is N&P, but this is really the first thing that came to mind.

You can hate him yet still cheer for the fact scientology is going to get what's coming to it? :D

Of course, we gotta wait and see if scientology will actually take him on. They usually focus on weak opponents.

I don't think the IRS qualifies as a weak opponent.

When Federal services bend over backwards every time someone presents badly written piece of paper claiming disobeying what's written there will offend religious beliefs? Yeah, they kinda are weak...

I'm just praying they go after Sea Org. For those of you who don't know Sea Org is where scientologists send children rumored to be as young as eight for indoctrination and training to essentially operate as underage labor for the organization, including some children who are adopted from the third world and raised to become Sea Org members.

If that strikes you as brainwashing and slavery on a secret base, congratulations! You have a moral compass.

What happens though if Murdock takes over Scientology or Scientology gains the media empire? You have to watch out for the possibility that they'll absorb the loser!
