Heh- C-5 Galaxy mishap

One thing: "largest aircraft in the free world". What the heck is that supposed to mean? Last I checked, the Soviet Union fell- which means that the An-225 wins. Or An-124 if you want to talk about mass-produced.

Odd... they said the aircraft was not damaged, but it looks like the left wing got caught on something, damaging its leading edge and bending it.

Man, and I love it when a plane flies over the interstate when landing. That would have been one hell of site.

The leading edge isn't bent. That the slats in the leading edge being down. The slats increase the lift at low speeds, making the takeoff speed lower.

One time when I was travelling on Highway 101 I saw Air Force One with Clinton on board take off. Another time I saw Air Force One with Bush on board as I was working at a building next to the highway.

Nice picture. Reminds me a totally unrelated event in which a passenger jet landed more then half way down a runway in bad weather. It overshot so badly it went of the runway, had its landing gear collapse, and then proceeded to slip across the grass, though the perimeter fence, stopping on a road less then 50 feet from a major gas station.

Not really a mistake. The pilot did everything right, from all appearances. Sometimes bad things just happen.

If that was a C-17, it could have backed up under its own power.

Haha, well since I got laid off in October I know longer have access to the building. Offically that is......

Air Force One is pretty vulnerable in that situation, I was on the roof of the building waiting for the plane to come. Someone had told the the president was landing in the next 10-15 minutes. I think it would be hard for a terrorist to pull it off, but its not impossible to shoot at the plane.

However, I would not want to press my luck, you never know when there is an armed escort flying around in helicopters, which was the case when I saw Air Force One with Clinton.
