I'm curious what your feelings on that subject are; do you think the world would be a better place if there were fewer jokes making fun of racial minorities or perpetuation racist stereotypes? Intent makes a difference in whether or not a person's an asshole but it shouldn't make a difference in whether or not they need to stop doing something.

Crown, a study was posted in the thread showing, while not a causation, a correlation between exposure to rape jokes and people taking rape less seriously and being more likely to do it. It's not a slippery slope when there's evidence a link already exists.

I'm not in the habit of endorsing the belief that right minded people should censor themselves over an intangible fear of what a disease minded individual might do in situations where a vast majority of people inherently recognise that this in fact not the correct way of thinking.

Even if you showed me a study of a comedian making a joke of eating a baby, and then some sicko went out and ate a baby, I still wouldn't blame the comedian, because who the fuck goes out to eat a baby?

I missed this section, because it wasn't directed at me, but here's a thought; many (and I mean many) 'ethnic' comedians do the stereotype racist gags as a way of empowerment and of making fun of the racist idiots who actually believe in the stereotypes. There are many 'non ethnic' comedians who can also pull this off, because there is an inherent derision that shows up these stereotypes as being things to mock.

Some examples; the 'Wogs out of Work' crew in the early 90s in Australia, Lisa Lapanelli, etc.

What studies? That fucked up people find fucked up things funny? So what? Normal people find them funny too, should we all stop laughing because some fucked up person can't distinguish between wrong and right? If someone is not intending, obviously so, to incite rape or violence I'm not going to blame them. I'm going to blame the violent and/or rapist assholes. If someone is obviously inciting such I'll blame them for incitement, but I'll still hold the violent/rapist assholes responsible for their own actions. If you went to a COMEDY show and their was a rape joke and you thought it was so funny you went and raped someone over it than I'm going to hold you responsible for being a rapist, not the comedian for making a fucking joke.

Point is, you're a big boy and therefore are ultimately the only person responsible for your actions. Stop blaming other people for the actions of fucking violent assholes and rapists. Those fuckers were already looking for an excuse and would have found it anyway, so blaming Tosh is about as fucking retarded as blaming rap music and videogames.

I believe there was someone on some comedy show who made a comment to the effect our troops are the real cowards for hiding behind missiles and tanks and stuff while the terrorists are willing to literally blow themselves up to get us. I didn’t see it myself, only heard about it second-hand, but I think it was within a few years of 9/11.

Needless to say, he was fired from the show shortly afterwards.

You do not have the right to not be offended. You don't like a particular comedian? Don't go to his shows. You disagree with a TV show? Don't watch it. You go to a show and the cotent turns out to be something you don't like? Be an adult and leave.

What line was crossed and by whose standard is this line set? Comedy is subjective as all hell, what's funny to you might not be funny to me and I'm pretty damn sure some of the shit I might periodically giggle at would make you want to develop a close relationship with Jesus. Point is, Tosh said something that was offensive, he apologized for it. Other point is that depending on which version of events you go by the lady that was initially offended was asking for it, by being a heckler, something that no sane and sober adult does to a professional comedian without fully expecting to be offended to hell and gone.

You all may now commence whining about the offensive joke I just made.

Does anyone know of one who will cross that barrier?

EDIT: Heck, watch it to the end. He even tells a joke about the Rock being his father that makes no sense in terms of chronology, then he does meta-narration thing and admits "yeah this joke makes no sense chronologically...but I don't know any other Samoans!". In another he's like "My girlfriend who is Asian...for this joke...".

He's not even making an ATTEMPT to appear serious. His entire persona is a total joke and everyone knows it.

I finally had a chance to watch the latest Tosh.0. In addition to many "X is never funny" comments such as "Making fun of Sarah Palin isn't funny. She has a special needs child," Tosh ended the show with "Feel free to hit me up on twitter to tell me how much my show offended you."

He heckles the fuck out of them, embarrasses them in front of the entire crowd (bonus point because one of the douchebag's parents were sitting a few seats to their left), and finally forces them to move to other seats because they're being fucktards. More of this stuff I see the more and more I'm starting to disbelieve the butthurt woman from the OP's blog and think that she got punked for being a disruptive tool and decided to be a passive-aggressive bitch about it on her blog.
