Re: Something big
Fractalsponge1 just a quick question have you ever though of making any pre-clone wars republic ships (as most of the stuff you've made seems to be imperial or clone wars repulic ships)?
I may be an idiot, but I'm a tolerated idiot

Re: Something big
I absolutely love the gratuitous engine clustering, looks like some old russian rockets, I'd keep that over the more symmetrical designs.
Crossroads, the biggest problem with Cracken's other than the awful art is that they violated the paired design format of the ship classes, warrior and agave were supposed to be picket/scout and gunboat, the majestic light cruiser and light carrier, sacheen and hajen support and frigate, endurance and nebula/defender cruiser and carrier etc, instead the hulls share no common elements. the nebula SD/defender SD/defender carrier/defender cruiser/endurance carrier nightmare for reconciliation still makes no sense. I'm of the opinion that the defender SD was a very limited run prototype that eventually became the nebula SD, the defender carrier was what we call the endurance and was a shared hull with the defender cruiser.
Crackens defender cruiser (sorry for the awful render style)
http://warlords.swrebellion.com/g2/main ... temId=5969
and then the endurance variant of it
http://warlords.swrebellion.com/g2/main ... temId=5972
the republic SD could be salvagable as well, though this was just a start
http://warlords.swrebellion.com/g2/main ... itemId=948
tbh the majestic is not too out of place for EU ships
http://warlords.swrebellion.com/g2/main ... itemId=760
I believe the watchkeeper was in the book as well which is pretty salvageable
http://warlords.swrebellion.com/g2/main ... itemId=177

Re: Something big
I agree fully with that Eville, especially in terms of the rolls the ships were Supposed to have.
On the other ships, The Majestic, and the Watchkeeper I agree are not that bad all things considered, especially the way you represented them.
Your version of the Republic SD is far and away your greatest triumph as far as I am concerned, considering the original pic was just a sort of blob and you turned into a streamlined sleep battleship.
You should have posted some of your more advanced renders of it, that one is pretty early if I recall.

Cracken's Threat Dossier was one of the most awful Star Wars works ever made. It did a terrible job of summarizing the plots in making several mistakes, and the artwork was just abysmal.Crossroads Inc. wrote:I agree fully with that Eville, especially in terms of the rolls the ships were Supposed to have.

At least the Nebula-class Star Destroyer and Endurance-class fleet carrier situation has finally been resolved by the EGtW, save for the Defender-class Star Destroyer from Star Wars: Invasion that uses the old CTD Defender/Nebula design, of course there are valid explanations for that. Now if only they would just give the rest of the New Class Modernization Program the same treatment, the New Class would make perfect sense.
I have loved that design for the Republic-class Star Destroyer, ever since I saw it in mods like Phoenix Rising and Thrawn's Revenge; it definitely should be the canon representation.

Heh...I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm not. Now it wouldn't be such a bad thing if you knew they were using it. Which I'm assuming you didn't...

Re: Something big
It's always funny when some oddly specific greebles or antennas or weapon mounts show up in official products. At least the bellator can be a true derivative work (hmm the sith empire built bellators 4000by?), but the ISD is just a filter applied to the original c'mon...

Re: Something big
Well, there's not much to be done at this point. That ISD pic does get used a lot. I suppose it's got a better chance of being confused for official than the ship-on-black-background renders...
Re: Something big
Well, I guess having your work confused for official images is probably the best case problem you could ask for as an artist...
Re: Something big
I seriously thought this thread was dead.
So Odile Vaiken's new model of Star Destroyer was provisionally represented by a Bellator-class in Timeline 11, how quaint.

Re: Something big
This thread dies many times. I don't have the time to churn out models all the time. I've got some NDA'ed non-SW projects these days as well, including a really big ship I can't talk about...
Re: Something big
Can't talk about it, but will you post when it is done? Or let us know where it can be seen? Really curious on a Fractal non-Imperial ship.

Re: Something big
I might be able to post renders, but would have to check. When the project goes live, I can definitely tell you where to see it Though, If you follow game news, you've probably seen the low-polygon version already. It's quite big.

Re: Something big
you can't let us see it, but can you say where it's from?
If a black-hawk flies over a light show and is not harmed, does that make it immune to lasers?
Re: Something big
It must be the Infinity from Halo 4. Personally, I am not a fan of that ship. Its got no .... width. But all taste is subjective, I don't criticise the quality of the work that went into it.

Re: Something big
The real problem with the Infinity is the same problem as any human ship in Halo, at least the larger ones. The Infinity is just like the Pillar of Autumn, just super-sized...the PoA was a long thin ship too. Realitively speaking of course.
And I was going to guess that it was the Infinity too...its the only thing I can think of that is very big, and in gaming news.

So... that is different from Star Destroyers how? They're all pizza slices.
Its all just an aesthetic theme. If you think about it, a whole bunch of franchises do that.

Re: Something big
OK, I think I can tell you it is the Infinity, but not the low-res version used in the existing trailer.
I will probably be able to show renders when the game is out.
