Hell, the plot outline of them could have been pretty good. It was based on Frank Herbert's own notes. The problem was Kevin Jerk-off Anderson. I'm convinced he's really being ghost written by a fifth grader.
If only they had published the notes, maybe with a little commentary here and there.
I will provide someone with my left testicle if they can provide proof that the following were in Herbert's notes:
That RM Mohaim is Jessica's mother.
That Paul was born in the palace on Kaitain.
That LetoI had been married previous to his involvement with Jessica.
That Vladimir Harkonnen's obesity can be attributed to a BG disease.
That Ix is ruled by a Great House.
That Salusa Secundus was devastated by nuclear weapons.
That a Prince Rhombur and his BG bride produced offspring by fucking ARTIFICIAL INSEMENATION!!!
I agree some of those points are poorly done. Hell, I think some of them are probably whole plot point's constructed off tiny references.

Children of Dune The Women is on right now, and I'm trying to figure out why they are showing it NOW. I figured it would be some sort of side story to lead up to Children of Dune, but it's really a big documentary. Dont' get me wrong, it's great getting the insight of what's going on, and helping to understand the characters, but they're like, tossing out spoilers like my dad tosses out diet pills.

My point in bringing them up is:
A) They completely contradict the originals.
B) So utterly ridiculously out of character that B&B would be ashamed.

I'll agree that some of those do contradict what the originals imply and there are some flat out contradicitons. But a fair amount of it just amounts to purists whining.

It's to entice people to watch the series. It's like the FOX thing on LOTR before the first movie.

The definate contradiction is that Paul was born on Kitaine. I seem to remember that the BG where shocked/annoyed in Dune when they discover that Jessica has a boy-child. I'll pull out a direct quote later when i can be arsed.

I'd just like to add my 2 pence, ive read a couple of dune books and watched the Lynch film and i am considering buying the Sci-Fi channel series on dvd. but as far as i am concerned Dune is fucking weird.
btw, love the Dune Games by Cryo and Westwood.

That was always a big thing in the Original Dune books. Jessica wanted Paul to follow his fathers example and not marry his lover. "Don't marry for love it'll bring our house down."
