What if the New Republic/Rebellion discovered the link to ST
Instead of the Empire? I only ask because it seems this board has the empire vs. star trek pretty well covered. If the New Republic post-ROTJ discovered a worm hole, what do you think their response would be? If the link was discovered during the rebellion era, and the rebels managed to keep it secret from the empire, what do you think the result would be?

The information would quickly spread to other parties, and some pirate group would conquer a quadrant overnight. The New Republic would engage in negotiations and exchange ambassadors for years. The Rebellion would quickly attempt to exploit the area for concealed basing and resources.

Something that might prove to be a bit of a stumble block would be the Prime Directive, ST has a huge thing about not allowing pre warp cilvilisations to know about them, but SW doesn't seem to give a crap look at the inhabitants of Dantooine, Leia was willing to have it blown up and the locals had already had a base ob their planet and stuff, but I doubt very much if the Federation would give a crap about their precious Prime Directive if they said "hey we could wipe out those pesky Borg for you in about a day".

I don't remember. Did it say that Dantooine was inhabited or not?Dorsk 81 wrote:Something that might prove to be a bit of a stumble block would be the Prime Directive, ST has a huge thing about not allowing pre warp cilvilisations to know about them, but SW doesn't seem to give a crap look at the inhabitants of Dantooine, Leia was willing to have it blown up and the locals had already had a base ob their planet and stuff, but I doubt very much if the Federation would give a crap about their precious Prime Directive if they said "hey we could wipe out those pesky Borg for you in about a day".

Well, the Empire DID check out Dantooine first so I guess not, but it was inhabited.

New Republic would make a mess of things, as too many of its members would jump at the chance to plunder... I mean, "enlighten" the technologically-backwards inhabitants of the ST universe.irishmick79 wrote:Instead of the Empire? If the Rebellion were to discover it... they'd probably offer up SW technology to anyone willing to provide supplies, bases, and manpower to help against the Empire. Let's face it: the Rebellion scrounged from whatever and whomever it could to get supplies and money in the early days. Trading technology, even to a group like the Klingons or Cardassians, wouldn't have been as important as getting help against the Empire.
Of course, the key would have been to keep the connection a secret as long as possible -- perhaps secretly build up Rebellion forces out in the Outer Rim areas (kind of like how Palpatine kept funneling supplies and troops to Thrawn and his people before Thrawn was brought back to Coruscant), as a way of not only keeping prying Imperial eyes away from them but also to help maintain security.

This was the topic of the first thread I started in ASVS when a couple of people asked 'Why is it always the Empire vs. the Federation, why not vs. the Federation AND the Rebels/NR' I summed up a few points on reasons why the NR would actually go to war with the Federation. And got bogged down by Scooter and the Baron. (the Baron seized on this as proof I was a trekkie, I'm still trying to figure that one out) then I was introduced to SD.net and found most of my reasons in Mike's comments in the database.

I think it would go a little something like the fanfic 'Manifest Destiny'. Check it out in the Fanfic forum. I hear it's pretty good.

Re: What if the New Republic/Rebellion discovered the link t
If the Rebels find AQ, they'll face some problems:
- They may invite some Trekgovernments to join their cause against the Empire, but I don't think they have the resources nor the luxury to upgrade those pitiful new allies to SW-level tech.
- They could use the relatively unexploited (by SW standards, of course) Trek galaxy to build their strength by colonizing and building necessary facilities (mining stations, industrial facilities, etc). But since the Rebels have to build from scratch, I doubt that this is a feasible solution. The process could take quite a long time and if the Empire find out, they'll be screwed.
So I think the best solution is to "outsource" the fight against the Empire, if you will: Inform everyone in Trek galaxy about the Empire, convince them that the Empire is a threat, then give out any SW tech (and how to build them) to anyone who's willing to fight the Empire.
Heck, the Rebels can abandon a ship in Borg space, fully loaded with tech samples and schematics, information about the intergalactic link, and information about the Empire as well (with propaganda records showing that the Empire is a big threat); letting the Borg assimilate the ship and (hopefully) make the Empire their next assimilation target (like in Conquest).
Of course, whether the pathetic Borg is actually capable to assimilate SW tech and strong enough to hurt the Empire is another question...

The borg tactic is too risky. If they do assimilate the tech, that makes them quite a threat to the ST galaxy, and eventually the SW galaxy. Even if the Borg don't go for the Rebels first, they'll still end up fighting the Rebels once the Empire is gone. Of course, the Alliance is desperate, so . . .

Since the NR has no 'Prime Directive' type laws (at least none anyone seems to obey) they'll probably put a military base up on both ends then let Republic freindly companies start sending trade ships through. They can make proceeds off tariffs. As well as offer worlds membership. The NR will have to fight the borg at some point. But other than that I forsee a peaceful absorbsion.
