Commentary from Bad Political Cartoons III
why do you think the second is bad?

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood

Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
I actually like the third one: yeah, its message is bullshit (because the economy of a superpower is so simple that you can just turn it around, yeah, right), but I think it makes a good combination of contrasting what Obama says to what is happening.

I don't really understand the second to last one. Romney's voters are slaves pulling the Obama voters ... and something about bandwagons? Is there some subtle meaning here I am missing, or is it just the senseless clash of various images that it looks like?

It's Chuck Asay, a man who drew a cartoon after the Utoya shootings that portrayed Norwegians as giant cowards. He's just a disgusting person and his cartoons rarely make much sense if you don't already know his reprehensible views.

Wow. It's so tiny that at first I took it as both sides attempting to pull a wagon full of independents to their side, but now that I can see it, it's fucking appalling. I guess Assay agrees with the 47% comments.

Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
On the Asay one, I actually originally thought it was a liberal-leaning cartoon, with the "Romney Voters" arrow pointing at the guys holding the whips. Some of that is the small size, but still funny how poorly it gets the message across.
Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
You know, if you took that third one and changed nothing but the writing on the guy's briefcase to "Big Insurance" you would have a pretty good pro-universal healthcare cartoon.

Those are pretty bad, but I wouldn't say they're the worst thing Chuxk "Open the Blood Gates" Asay has ever made. Find the one where the Supreme Court justices crash into the world trade center.

Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
So, in the first one stereotypical Jesus doesn't get to democratic national convention because... of a legitimate reason of being born and dying before even the invention of photo ID? I am only guessing that it is Jesus, because he could be just a homeless man in a bathrobe.
The second one is... that looking at fat people is bad? Or that fat people shouldn't wear revealing clothing? While not an unfair point, that's hardly worth drawing a cartoon over. No matter how I look at the picture, I can't make out what's the fucking problem.
The third one is the closest one I can make any bloody sense of. Too bad that it ignores the reality that this is what would have happened to the person WITHOUT so-called "Obama-care". From what I can gather, this is what would have happened to him (her?) if he DID pay insurance.

Yupp, that is the issue. Cracks. Boob cracks and but cracks.

See the "airlines monitor clothing" headline in the newspaper on the left.

Don't miss the speech bubbles. The first one says "Could you bring me a blanket, please?" while the second one says "Could you bring them a blanket, please?" while pointing at TEH B00BIES ON TEH PLANE.

Loads of his comics are THEN vs NOW and could all just be retitled "old man shakes fist at cloud."

To be fair, every school should have that just to warn the children to stay in school lest they end up like her.Last year year they had a "stupid shit I can't believe Sarah Palin said in public" wall calender.

Sadly, ex-Governor Palin has a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. I'm not saying I'm impressed with her either. All I'm saying is "Stay in school and you'll be S-M-R-T!" is not really the best argument; the poster child of willful ignorance has a college degree.
Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
Are you actually saying educated people hold as many ignorant viewpoints (like condoms do not prevent pregnancy) as uneducated people or are you just nitpicking?

Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
I'm saying educated people can hold just as many ignorant viewpoints. A poll by Pew of scientists on the National Science Board held that while 90% of non-college educated Americans believe in a personal God which answers their prayers, just getting educated doesn't get rid of that notion, only reduces it. 40% of BS holders believe the same thing, and even amongst members of the National Science Board, 10% of them still believe in a personal god which hears and responds to their prayers. Does the number and likelihood go down? Sure, but it doesn't go to zero.Thanas wrote:Are you actually saying educated people hold as many ignorant viewpoints (like condoms do not prevent pregnancy) as uneducated people or are you just nitpicking?

Re: TERRIBLE POLITICAL CARTOONS, Part III
Asshole, clipping out my argument and then strawmanning what I said is not a concession of anything. Shit-ass. If anything, you backpedaled from "stay in school and you won't be ignorant" to "stay in school and you might not be as ignorant," which is essentially what I said to begin withThanas wrote:Thank you for conceeding that you were actually nitpicking.Terralthra wrote:Does the number and likelihood go down?
