Good —making Mittens eat his "college students should borrow money from their parents" statement.

Man, it's amazing to watch Romney accuse Obama of not being bipartisan because the GOP won't cooperate with him.

Obama just shoved his dick down Romney's throat. About fucking time, but since Romney didn't shit his pants they'll say he won.

The President isn't about to make an issue out of that after Romney ate his own foot demanding the last word in the first segment.

Okay Debate 1 Review, they are doing final statements now, short summary.
Obama came off better but not by much, he was calm and collected.
Also I won our little drinking game but only because this was economy and heath care night. My random selections of Bin Ladin and Parents netted my only so many drinks while poor JO and her small businesses, and poor tax cuts, if he had not thrown in the towel we'd be in the ER for alcohol poisoning as we speak.

aaaaaaaaaaand back to medicare. Where will those 12 million jobs come from? Military cuts? Oy, don't get me started.

Mitt had a very weak finish. It sounded like he was kicking off a new speech, not rounding out his current one.

Final summary, Obama left a lot of things on the table. Romney went after him lots but it was not very effective. Romney left things on the table as well.

Romney was energetic, Obama was calm. And Leher is a shitty moderator.

Mr Bean wrote:Obama had a great point when he started talking about "Maybe the reason why these plans are secret" but his finish was poor. I thought he was going to go with "Because they don't exist" rather than the long meandering end he went with.

Also, I've had two more drinks and run into zero additional walls. This makes nine? Ten? Twelve?
He had a bunch of moments like that we're he started with a good line of attack and meandered away from it. He had a great chance to pull a Clinton and nail Romney on arithmetic he should have kept on.

Romney has decided he's the Governor of Mass again. Quite the pivot.

I think Romney won, I don't know if by enough to make a real difference.

Both were boring and fidgety, I don't think this registers in the popular consciousness.

I think Romney did poorly at providing details and Obama really hit him with it. And I think this is actually a loss for Romney since he needed this debate to shore up his base with the Paleo-cons and others which he clearly did not do, nor was he particularly exciting or on the ball with his zingers to energize his locked votes.

Obama appeared cool, collected and like he had his shit together; all in all he appeared Presidential. It was not a great performance by any means but he succeeded at that important point. Romney was like a door to door salesman trying to sell his unspecified vision to a disinterested housewife.

Did Mittens just dump the Tea Party? He was talking about making sure that the rich keep on paying the same share of taxes.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

I do think Romney gained more from this debate than Obama did, it seemed like there were several places where Obama could have drove home the point and failed to do so. Romney's closing statement also nailed a lot of specific hotbutton issues for his base, so they may pick up a little steam after this.

Obama won, though it was not as big a win as he could have gotten. I agree he should have gone for the jugular, but he might have been too concerned about maintaining presidential dignity on stage. As it was, he was calm and collected, got in several good shots, and Mittens didn't lay a glove on him. Romney's argument degenerated into a straight repetition of talking points about the time they hit the healthcare segment of the debate.

Oh, and Jim Lehrer was there too.

For the first time in forever, Romney actually pivoted somewhat towards the center in things like health care. The question is if that is going to last, or if it was just a one-time thing for this debate.

Obama did poorly, I feel. I'm a full on O-bot as some say, but he did not do that great here. But the simple fact is, this is not an issue. For Romney, this was win decisively and keep his base, and he did neither. He did well enough, but he kept shoving his foot in his mouth, and then cut off the majority of his own party. Each of these times he doesn't kowtow enough to the worst, he loses a few more, and each time he goes reasonable, he loses more. And most importantly, he didn't make a big game changer, and his much-hyped 'zingers' were crap. Romney needed to win big. He didn't. He lost the night and another few news cycles.

The entire debate consisted of the two candidates contradicting each other over the moderators feeble objections while not saying anything of substance or value. So a typical debate, I guess. What a complete waste of everyone's time.

After a bathroom break and some thought and another drink (I have been informed that was the 11 by our designated driver). I have to conculde that they both lost. Neither really won, anyone who spins differently will be missing the points. Obama failed to counter many Romney points. And Romney just ignored Obama points. Obama tried and failed to counter Romney points. Romney just fucking IGNORED Obama points.

Two men gave speeches and happen to be on the same stage. You both lose, you are losers and you both fail.

I think Romney won a defensive victory largely due to his lower expectations although he was an incredibly high strung and nervous speaker.
