I think you need to be a bit more specific. There's a lot of subway.
They didn't specificy it. MTA just said it's flooded. Must be widespread enough that they don't bother with pinpointing it.

Given that the media is reporting 13 feet of water in the streets in some parts of Manhattan, "every subway tunnel under Manhattan, and all tunnels connecting to those" would be be a good starting guess. Sure, there's a lot of subway. There's also a fuckton of water washing over the island, too.

Joke like conditions in Phily so far. Its barely rained in the last five or six hours, the wind has dropped to under 10mph at times, though its picking back up to more like 30mph, and yet supposedly the storm made landfall not even 60 miles away, an hour ago. I really wonder what we are going to get, radar shows that almost all rain is stacked due west of the storm or already pushed far inland over us. I guess this lack of balance is why forecasts said anything from 3 inches to 10 inches of rain for the Phily area.

I think the rain now officially qualifies as "driving" and it's no longer fun to go out. Seems pretty tame for being near this huge storm, but I think I can live with a boring evening much better.

They closed all 4 DRPA bridges.

I'm seeing moderately brisk winds but rain is minimal. More like a driving spray. We've lost power for a few minutes, off and on, but that's been the worst of it so far.

No, we don't need a tidal dam! What's the worst that can happen? Just like NO people have been saying that lower Manhatten was at risk for years and no one listened. So what's are they going to do afterwards? Say it's a once in a century event and still not do a fucking thing. :banghead:

I couldn't find that story on the main news sites, just blogs. It may have changed by now but out of time as I need to sleep. :)

Still, pretty impressive.

Storm surges are salt water and there are a LOT of sharks in coastal waters, so it is plausible.

It's definately plausible, especially since that looks to be a bullshark, but I still don't entirely buy it.

Multiple vids and stills on YouTube at this point. It's not just one source, but quite a few all showing the same explosion so likely legit. NYC ComEd confirms flooded substations in that general area as well.

We won't get the full story on any of this until things start to settle down.

TV reporting at least 10 dead in NYC, 14 feet of water in Battery Park, Atlantic City Boardwalk damaged or destroyed, distress calls from Cooney Island and various barrier islands where people were told to get the hell out and if they didn't no rescue would be possible. Some contradictory reports and various levels of damage being reported, but not surprising given the level of chaos such weather brings.

Well ground zero has been flooded according to MSNBC and some pics they showed. Seems like most if not all of lower Manhatten is underwater.

Reports now coming in that not only are NYC subway tunnels flooding but now the road tunnels as well. Peak gusts in NYC in the 90+ mph range (150+ kph). Decision to empty those tunnels and shut down public transit and roads now confirmed as a good idea.

Several buildings, including one police precinct, have had walls collapse.

NYSE and NASDAQ will remain closed tomorrow, as will the UN headquarters and pretty much everything else in lower Manhattan.

Meanwhile, a Sandy-inspired blizzard is occurring in parts of Appalachia. The US Federal government officies will be closed until Wednesday. Here in Indiana, on the outskirts of the storm, we're having episodes of 40+ mph (60 kph) winds since noon, sustained winds in this area are forecast for 50 mph (80+ kph) by dawn, and we're expecting 7 meter waves - people are being warned to stay away from the lakefront.

We had our 1st fatality in Canada early Monday morning. It seems part of a sign came down and hit her right in the head. That happened about 20 minutes from where I live.

Pumping out the water is easy, but boy will keeping all that floating trash from clogging the pumps every ten seconds the hard part. Then they get to inspect all the signal gear some of which runs on compressed air piping.

Well, Philadelphia got out of this near scot free in relative terms, 5% of the city lost power and some roads that flooded would have flooded in a normal bad rainstorm. My improvised rain gauge in the backyard suggests about 2 inches fell in north Phily over the entire course of the storm, below even the minimal forecast range late Sunday.
