Need some help...

Post by The Dark »

OK, I'm running for the Student Government Senate. Granted, I'm the only person running for three spots (i.e. there are three positions open, and I'm the only one running), but I want to be ready for if more people sign up by Friday. I may make that part of my campaign, but I need ideas on what else to do. I may also mention that I'm the Secretary of the House, but that likely won't have much influence, since maybe 20% of the school pays attention to what goes on in SGA (hey, it's like the real government in that regard). Now, I can't mention alcohol, drugs, or sex in the ads, and I have to keep them at least 30 feet from the ballot area. So, any ideas on what to do?

Heh, student government apathy is huge here at UGA, less than 10 percent of the student body voted in the most recent election.

Anyway, try getting permission to talk to some large lecture classes before they start. Some teachers might be willing to help you.

I'm studying for the CPA exam. Have a nice summer, and if you're down just sit back and realize that Joe is off somewhere, doing much worse than you are.

You could try to play on the fact that most don't pay attention to student gov. Something about how you'll be doing the work, so they don't have to worry about it. There's also the fact that as of now you're the only one running, so you can try that angle. Like you're the only one that cares.

Or you could just have a big pyramid with a huge eye at the top. Real intimidating. :D

Or something.

Try running on an "Abolish SGA" platform, that might get you some votes. :D

Eep! Not when I'm good friends with the leading candidate for President and leading candidate for Executive Vice President. Plus, I work for SGA for my campus work program. Running on that platform would mean I was trying to put myself out of work...twice.

Actually, after I wrote that paragraph, I realized I'm close friends with almost all the Executive Council candidates. This is going to really be an interesting Senate if we all get elected...

Durran: we don't have any large lecture classes. The largest room seats 100, and it's never been more than half full. The whole school's only 1600.

neo: I was planning something similar, along the lines of "I'll speak for you so you don't have to."
