Re: Imperial 528's Starship Thread [No 56k]
Is your sig depicting your Warlord ship firing? Because it just reminded me of this paper I ran across recently which states that antimatter could be used to power an extremely potent gamma ray laser which would be used as propulsion (~300 MW of photon energy = 1 Newton of thrust), but could also be used as super death ray, a la the Kzinti Lesson
I don't know how viable this concept is, especially the ambiplasma stuff, but if your Warlord's main weapon is an extremely powerful laser, there will be thrust generated when firing. Just my two cents.
Blog mention: http://www.centauri-dreams.org/?p=22358
Paper itself: http://vixra.org/pdf/1201.0026v1.pdf
P.S. Are still modeling this in sketchup?

Re: Imperial 528's Starship Thread [No 56k]
Yes it is, although the main weapon is actually a particle beam through a three-splitter, not a laser. (In my renders I am going to stick to the realistic depiction of laser weapons) There are lasers on it though.
Also, if you look at the render you can see that the engines are actually firing to counter-act the force of the particle beam.
And yes, I am still doing the modelling in sketchup. Rendering in 3ds max though.

Re: Imperial 528's Starship Thread [No 56k]
For once I think I have finally manged to make an ISD-ish/wedge-shaped ship that I like:
And yes, this thing is a monster in size. And I mean a monster, it could trade shots with the Death Star if its captain should want to. Might not fare too well against the superlaser, but it would surely be able to face off against the surface guns.
Here's a comparison, the sphere is the diameter of the DSI:
I'll leave the VS nerds to do the scaling, though.

...not really.
Looks like a militarized variant of the 2001 starship. Kinda.

Eh, I'm not exactly surprised. I can't remember if you were browsing this thread then*, but here it is:
*As it turns out, I posted that about two months before your join date.
That one is the original model. This new one is the second attempt.

Oh hey, I remember that thing now. and yes - I did see it before I joined. I just didn't remember what it was.

This isn't much, but it's something from something else I'm working on right now:
I'm just posting the engine block since the rest of the ship is rather blank atm.

I've gone back to this ship for a bit:
Full view:
View of the topside communications tower: (The little docking ports are the same size as the Warlord's, in fact they are identical, they have the same concealment doors and all)
And one final shot to establish scale: (Those windows are 25' tall)
And I also did detailing on the engines of that other ship:

So, I haven't posted here in awhile, and this isn't a spaceship, rather a tank:
No thumbnails since imageshack is derping.
I also have this giant robot:
And another spaceship, well, renders of a previous one:

Very cool ships. And a lot of them! I like modeling in sketchup too, and it's really cool to see how nice they can look with alot of work. This thread is a really cool example of progression of work. Very cool.

Well, here's another tank, this one made in Inventor. Structural weight is about 49.75 short tons, or around 45 metric tons.

Iso:
Dimensioned, Feet:
Dimensioned, Centimeters:
The gun caliber is 4.125", around 104mm. I'm also working on a version that has an 8" (~208mm) howitzer, sort of just for kicks. Armor thickness on the front plate is about 141mm, though it has a high angle. On the turret front it is 343.98mm, sides are 81mm, and rear is 38.1mm. Should probably add some more on in those areas come to think of it. The ammunition storage can hold around one hundred shells and the turret is entirely automated, as the crew cabin is going to be in the hull. Yes, it is an alien tank, because a human would have a hard time fitting in there comfortably.
Also, the hull dimensions are 15' x 15' by length x width. Gun elevation range is -20/+20 over the front or rear, over the sides depression is reduced. Armor thickness on the hull is pretty much even all around.

Re: Imperial 528's Starship Thread [No 56k]
It's been a year since my previous update, so here's something I whipped up during the weekend for an RP. Sadly I was unable to get the textures to work, so the ship is just colored flat, which is washed out in the render. Background image from here.
