It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

I have totally changed my mind. I should join Red Cross and stay in luxury hotels for free, take two minutes to serve a single meal, evacuate at the first sign of danger, never walk up a flight of stairs (much less 30) to deliver food, etc. As far as relief efforts go, this is like the best thing ever.

Have a very nice day.

Ghetto Edit: There would have been no need to get any hotels at all and use all local volunteers, had it not been for the fact that it takes almost a month to go through all the necessary steps to volunteer with the Red Cross. Most of that time is just waiting- for them to read your application, for a scheduled orientation session that only happens once a month, etc.

Not to mention that volunteering requires internet access, which not everyone had in the aftermath of a disaster (I didn't). The Red Cross was literally the first organization that I tried to volunteer with, and had to go elsewhere because there was literally no way I could join their relief effort.

Have a very nice day.

True Story: Back when my mom was in the Army in Germany (in the 70's during Vietnam) injured soldiers would be given donuts and coffee by the Red Cross. And by given I mean sold. Yeap, they had to pay.
