World of Tanks Mark 2

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
I just grabbed top experience in my M4A3E2 in a battle with tier 8 tanks.
Damage Dealt: 1,774
Kills: Lowe, Hummel
Experience: 957 (2,870 with Premium and Daily Double)
Credits: 29,622 (Under 3k after restocking premium shells)
I normally hate Dragon Ridge too, but we had a great Cromwell wolfpack that was eating things and the heavies and TD's that went down along the sidepath provided great support.

Ghetto Edit: That match was followed by a very similar match in my Easy 8.

If I could convince both sides to wave the scouts through to murder the opposing team's arty then let them retreat to their starting circle, then start the real game, I would do it every time . I just tire of playing hump a rock so that I don't get killed by orbital death cannons.Skywalker_T-65 wrote:Considering what some people feel about Arty, it wouldn't surprise me if some of them DID do that

Oddly, I haven't seen that happen. And I've played both low-tier (right now) and top-tier (test server) arty. Granted, I haven't been in a 'half the team is top arty' battle yet, so that may be why

When you start seeing 4 tier 7 or 8 arty per side on a regular basis, any charm arty has wears off quite quickly. Seeing less then a full platoon worth per side in my E-50 or M103 is a rare event and non-arty matches at that level almost never happen.

One of the saddest games ever was way back when with arty topping out at Tier 6 and we had four Su-14s and a Hummel on our side VS three Hummels and a Su-14 of their side No big tanks, nothing but Panzer IV's, KV1s (Back when the Kv1 could get the derp turret) and a single tiger.Skywalker_T-65 wrote:Oddly, I haven't seen that happen. This was also back during the days when you started with a round in the chamber. Needless to say 5 seconds into the match there were three burning tanks in the spawnzone on our side and I was sitting my my A-32 detracted and with 40 hitpoints left and my driver dead. The rest of that game was slow painful advances as all of the Su-14s were platooned and took serious advantage of focus fire to quickly work through the rest of our team. It was down to me in my A-32 and a T-34 mostly because I was going to slow to get anywhere and the other guy was just hiding. Their Tiger advanced and finished us both off then ate our artillery alive and it ended with that single and their arty winning.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything like that, either playing as arty, or playing against it.

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
It's not really that surprising to do fairly well in a tier-8 game if you're driving a Jumbo and firing premium ammo and you have a good team. Premium ammo on a Jumbo has around the same penetration as the Soviet tier-7 heavy tank guns and tier-8 medium tank guns. 177mm penetration is enough to punch through the front armour of even a Ferdinand, provided you aim for the headlights.Jub wrote:I just grabbed top experience in my M4A3E2 in a battle with tier 8 tanks.

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Oh yeah, I remember back when games would start with a series of explosions in the spawn area due to enemy artillery blind-firing. If 3 SU-14s were co-ordinating and they all had the big gun upgrade, they could blanket a lot of the flag circle with their first volley.Mr Bean wrote:This was also back during the days when you started with a round in the chamber. Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
There are certain positions on maps where particular models of tank could hunker down and become virtually invincible if not for artillery. While people can enjoy the occasional artillery-free game, part of the reason those arty-free games work is the fact that people are conditioned to play a certain way by the presence of artillery. If arty were completely removed from the game, then gameplay would suffer as people learn to adopt more campy tactics.Broken wrote:If I could convince both sides to wave the scouts through to murder the opposing team's arty then let them retreat to their starting circle, then start the real game, I would do it every time . Anyone who tries to attack a group of dug-in campers is thankful for artillery, as it is by far the best way to dislodge a dug-in enemy.

The ideal in a match is 2-3 arty per side. Four arty per side is tough but not entirely painful yet. The one that's really annoying are the 5+ arty matches, where I often start things off by going "Every tank is a scout now, even the damn Maus".Broken wrote:When you start seeing 4 tier 7 or 8 arty per side on a regular basis, any charm arty has wears off quite quickly. Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Yeah, I just had a round where there were 22 Arties. Only 4 other tanks on each side.
That was horrific. Especially since half the Arties were volley-firing T92s, so if you were spotted, you were instantly dead due to nuclear saturation fire. My Patton didn't survive two seconds while creeping through the urban area on Sand River, since they flattened all the buildings with mass bombardment. Hell, I didn't even get seen. I hit a stone wall, so they fired at that spot blindly.

HOLY!!!!
Yeah...glad that hasn't happened to me. My last battle was just a quick death in my T-150 due to being out-tiered with just the 85mm. Granted, I did soak up quite a bit of fire from a KV-3 and a T32 before dying.

Did your team's arty at least provide some vengeance by firing at their tracers?Nephtys wrote:Yeah, I just had a round where there were 22 Arties. Only 4 other tanks on each side.

Or were they already dead by then?
I had a match in my M37 where each team had 6 arties. It came down to all of our arties and two remaining heavies, versus three mediums and their five surviving arties. The other artillery units kept shouting "heavies plz scout" or something to that effect, despite the heavies already having set themselves up to intercept and delay any charge by the mediums. So I just said "fuck it, I'll scout"Zinegata wrote:The ideal in a match is 2-3 arty per side. Four arty per side is tough but not entirely painful yet. Apparently, not too many know how fast the M37 can get.
Rammed an M4 and died, killed it too, and the rest of the team successfully creamed them. Though mostly it was the heavies mopping up all opposition after their entire team scattered after the first volley of fire.

I haven't had to scout in arty yet, but I have had to go TD mode more times than I like.

Oh I love TD mode. It's fun until you die instantly from anything larger than a peashooter. Which is just about the same as regular artillery, 'cept there's higher risk.

I don't mind it in moderation. Does get annoying having to do it all the time though. Something about playing arty gets me stuck with idiot teams more often *shrugs*

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Lol. Its interesting to compare the victory rate of my tanks.54% for the M2 Medium tank and 55% for M3 stuart, 37% for my German TD Marder and Panzerjaegar, but an abysmal 26% for the M3 Lee tank........... Its clear that I have no idea how to play an oversized TD...

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Yeah, the M3 is a bizarre little (read: giant) machine. The thing to remember is that if you only poke your sponson out from behind a wall, there isn't much that can hurt you - positioning is even more important than with a real TD.

A 26% win rate should be nearly impossible unless you got very unlucky on a short streak of games...

Not quite sure what my lowest win-rate is (need to log-on to check, and I'm too tired for that), but I don't think its any lower than maybe 40.

Re: World of Tanks Mark 2
Bwahahaha ... I just experienced the flip-side of the high-tier arty overload.
I was just on Steppes with 6 high-tier arties on each side. But while our heavies swung left, I took my T-54 right, and found myself in an impromptu wolf-pack with an E-50, another T-54, and a Patton. Amazingly, we actually co-ordinated well, moving at breakneck speed up the right side of the map. We killed three enemy mediums by focusing fire and barely slowed down, losing only one tank (the other T-54), and continuing our blitzkrieg right into the enemy backfield without stopping to catch a breath.
His arties were all camped behind the rail line, and suddenly found three tier-9 mediums flying into their midst. With support from our own arties, we tore them apart in maybe 30 seconds, without even losing a single tank.
A large group of arties is dangerous, but against their limited close-in combat capabilities, a high-tier medium wolf-pack rolling into their midst at full throttle is almost unstoppable. It's almost pathetic to watch an Object 212 trying to turn its massive bulk to aim at a T-54 hurtling past it at 60 km/h.
