Complaining about Europeans using EU membership rules to come and steel aar jerrbs is, however, all the rage among the British right, and there has been a perception that the Tories are no longer as dedicated to this complaining as they used to be, so all their restricted issue anti-EU voters are making friendly noises to Nigel Farage, which probably won't give UKIP any seats but might mean the tories lose some majorities to Labour or Lib Dem (ha ha fat chance Clegg has poisoned the electoral chances of them for ages).

Hence this, and the promise of an EU referendum honest guv if you'll just please vote Tory in 2015.

Of course, because it's this government both are catastrophically badly timed, designed, organised, and well, Omnishambles.

Update: The British ambassador to Romania has been summoned to explain himself.

The British ambassador to Romania was asked to attend a meeting on Friday in Bucharest with the minister for Romanians abroad, Cristian David, at which the importance of discussing immigration in a "balanced and rational way" was debated.

David said: "Always when you try to keep some people out in a public campaign you have to be aware that you will make others feel uncomfortable who are already there and integrated. I expressed myself very diplomatically."

Now that's a conversation I'd have paid good money to witness.
