More like how many Irish americans committed terrorist attacks since the Molly Maguires back in the post Civil War era.
of course there was the Kennedy Family smuggling Booze during prohibition and sending tommy guns to Mike Collins, or Peter King (the Republican Congressman) who was one of the biggest fund raisers/Sinn Fienn backed people in present day US politics.

Pretty much. Though when most right wingers say "Muslim" they usually mean "Arab".

“@MaxBlumenthal On Wednesday, Obama said they would not intimidate us -- "not here in Boston." And today the whole city is shut down because of one guy.”

Fair point. Still, look forward to the debate over necessity.

Salon has an article on the house-to-house search legality and people debating the exigent circumstances. Pretty funny stuff to see people entertain the idea of saying no to a SWAT team busting through the door.

One guy who is allegedly armed with an automatic weapon and a few pipe-bombs, has demonstrated a marked disinterest in being taken alive and might yet turn out to have one or more accomplices the police haven't identified yet. "Business as usual" does not strike me as a very likely or sensible response.
There are hardly any excesses of the most crazed psychopath that cannot easily be duplicated by a normal kindly family man who just comes in to work every day and has a job to do.

Replace "ginger" with "n*gger," and suddenly it become a lot less funny, doesn't it?

Should policy in these times be driven by pride ('I'll go about my life as usual despite the risks because...') or concern for safety ('We'll minimise risks in this brief period of danger')? What level of inconvenience is worth someone getting killed?

Not necessarily legal, but you aren't the target so the end result will pretty much be nothing on you.

Apparently Lindsay Graham is in favor of suspending the 4th and 5th amendments for this guy. Yeah I get it, but y'know, due process. Anyone surprised?

Never had civics at school, yet they have it Stateside and people seem quite happy to ignore what they teach in it, assuming they pay attention. The whole inalienable rights thing (except for those people) seems common.

What do they teach in those things anyway?

Yeah well in the empire we called it social education, but I'm culturally sensitive. :V

Its about society; governance, role of different organisations and levels, rights and responsibilities of the individual and citizen, etc. Stuff like 'hey suspending core rights of people without trial is probably FUCKING STUPID' said George Washington. In Au they discussed social contract and benefits for society vs benefits of the individual, which probably isn't big in the US.

But yeah beacon of freedom and democracy and BILL OF RIGHTS except that guy is declared bad by fox news so no rights for him not really good. I mean cynically it is good because it creates a force for control of the population, but y'know.

He is supposedly intelligent so it's no surprise he is still on the loose. Although maybe they have him in custody?

Given the scenes I've seen on the telly, how in the hell does one escape that place? They did everything but send the entire National Guard to Boston and have Global Hawks run recce from above. You couldn't take a piss without an M4 being pointed at your face from a cop, fed or soldier.

Unless he's holed up somewhere they've not reached, he probably won't get too far now without making it a suicide mission. We know what he looks like, how he'll act when confronted and that he's got nothing to lose. Even if all he has is a single sidearm, he could still make a bigger impact than him and his brother have already made.

Not really. These people always say that when it isn't them or when it is something they are passionate about. I remember when a child went missing in SLC and was later found to have been murdered by her neighbor. The police went to the house but they were refused entry. They went back later with a warrant. People lost their shit over that, including the family of the child (understandable). Anyway, this is pretty normal. People are more than willing to give up the rights of others.

Gunfire reported in Watertown; I jump to conclusions and say the suspect has been found.

Edit: reports of a body being found hidden on a boat in a backyard surfacing on BBC
