When was the last election that ANYONE thought that an opposition pact would have a ghost of chance? When Malaysia changes, BN is truly out, not the other way around.
The real question to answer is: Is the change enough to make a difference at all? Also, is the opposition pact lasting enough?

Well I'm not sure what exactly you expect - Penang is by most accounts doing better than ever, and even Selangor reports a budget surplus.

So, more of the details are coming out.

One of the contested site never suffered a 'blackout' at all, according to the DAP contestant contesting there. The problem was social media/internet sites reporting the opposition as trending/winning, this when the official counters were still tabulating the results and had no results to show yet.

So, when the official result revealed that the opposition lost, people promptly asserted that vote tampering occurred.

Frankly I'm done with the fraud bullshit. All the videos I've seen are OPPOSITION Chinese thugs being racist as hell and intimidating fellow Malaysians. The elections commission may lack credibility but the opposition had gone too far in trying to vilify them.

Why should this be surprising considering all the race politics that goes on in your country?

I suppose there is a case to be made about not being blinded by the fact that I am only personally familiar with a middle class suburban existence and thus have a minimal perspective on what life is like outside of that - prefering to just quickly drive past it.

Anyway Fingolfin, Painrack - I'm curious, in your experience, what is the Malay Singaporean view on Malaysian politics and society? I've heard stories where it is said that they look down on their cousins in M'sia, while there are others where they say they are oppressed and looked down on in S'pore, so I suppose the truth lies somewhere in between depending on how and where you were born? How about the divide between so called 'banana' chinese and chinese educated chinese?

I suspect some Malays here are thankful things are better here than up north, despite all the pretty obvious official bias. People here are generally apathetic anyway.

As for the divide between "Banana Chinese" and the Chinese educated ones, I can't care less since I belong very much to the former. :P I can't speak much of a word of Chinese as it is.

I highly doubt that they look down on their cousins up north...... its not as if the Malay community in Singapore is doing dramatically better. On the average, they are better economically, but unlike Malaysia, there are very few 'Malay success' stories here and the lifestyle is bought with a shitload of stress.

The real crux of the issue I suspect is whether Malays feel they are being discriminated against and the bumiputra status of the Malaysians......

Banana Chinese and Chinese educated Chinese has disappeared. Its the older generation thing, and the key crux was over economic competition. The last gasp of this was in the 90s but its a wholly new working generation now in 2013. The problem is now class based........ well, that and xenophobic based:D
