Theory on SSD varying length

Post by 2000AD »

All the official sources keep stating that SSD's are 8km long, but visual scaling of the Executor puts it at about 11km IIRC.

Could this be explained by the fact that the Executor is Vader's personal ship, therefor since he is one of the most powerful people in the Empire his SSD is larger than the others? Just a theory.

Not likely. First, it's 11 miles, which equals 17,6 km.

The Emperor's Eclipse was 17,5 km, 1,5 km more than the later Eclipse II, which is possibly the standard version.

Plus, the Lusankya was the sister vessel, so regardless of lenght of the Executor, the Lusankya should be the same lenght. I could buy that Vader's vessel was a bit larger than the "standard" size. But not double the lenght and more.

From an practical engineering standpoint, no. The size and shape of the ship will be dependent on it's size. You could not scale up or down the Executer as such without making extreme structural design changes.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

Why won't LFL just retcon it and stop being fucking stupid?

They have decided that the SSD is actually 12.8km. Pathetic. It's 17.6km, and nothing official sources can say will change that.

If you want to laugh orgasmically at utter dipshittery and doublethink that makes you think devout Catholics are rational, go to the TF.net boards and argue with Genghis12 over the SSD's length.

"LFL says the lastest measurements are 12.8 km" Period.

Idiot.

And they made JackAss12 a mod too.

Gotta love the corporate ass-kisser's mentality. The people in LFL are afraid of offending anybody, and clearly pointing out a mistake by another licensee would offend somebody. However, they also know that it's wrong. So what do they do? They AVERAGE the bullshit number and the real number.

I'm not kidding. 12.8km is precisely halfway between 8km and 17.6km.

Then check the "Daily TF.net Wanking" thread.

I have so wanted to smackdown farraday's bullshit where because of EU idiocy he thinks that the X-Wing is some sort of capship killer and the only smart tactics for SW would be modernistic carrier tactics. It's ludacrious, really.

To a very minor extent you could, but not nearly that much. Some naval ships of the same class have varied by a couple percent total size, but as Wicked said, you can't scale up or down much without having to make extreme changes to the vessel. You might be able to alter the ship by a couple dozen meters, but no more. (If I had my references, I'd crunch some very hypothetical numbers, but they're not here).
