Moral Question

This was posed to me, so now I turn and pose it to you.

Your spouse/parent/child/important to you person is dying of cancer.
You just got a job as a research assisstant to a Doctor on the verge of a breakthrough in treating it.
You return late one night to find the dr. about to molest a little girl from the children's wing.
He tells you that although close to a working cure, its all in his head, nothing is written down if you turn him in/kill him he won't continue the research. Leaving thousands to die till someone else makes the breakthrough he did.

What do you do?

Turn him in. If he's that close to the breakthrough, someone else will be at almost the same point, and reach the breakthrough in a reasonable amount of time. Besides, what evidence do I have that he's telling the truth, and not merely lying to get off the hook?

If he is indeed telling the truth and is about to cure cancer, and noone else is anywhere near close, then I would let him do it, then turn him in once he completed the cure.

As the good Vulcan once said, the needs of the many outway the needs of the few.

However, since its impossible to know if hes lying or not, BEAT HIM UP!!

oh yes, torture is good. you can bring in a guy named bubba, right out of prison. or cut him in many places, not deeply, then pour salt and alcohol all over him so it STINGS or something.

or just get RayCav drunk and point him in the general direction of the guy. The drunkness is needed for RayCav to think the docs a girl.

Step 1: Stop him from molesting the girl.
Step 2: Tell him to disclose all of his information to you or you'll turn him in.
Step 3: As soon as he has disclosed all of his information, turn him in anyway. Dishonesty is not a serious moral offense compared to fucking child molestation. If he's that close, somebody else can pick up where he left off.

Everybody wins.
