I'm reminded of 'Operation Iraqi Freedom'. Hopefully, George W. Bush's successors will remember the lessons learned from that- an attempt at nation-building (or "occupation," to use the critics' words) that almost failed and rendered the successful invasion a meaningless gesture, precisely because too few troops were initially committed to the operation.Lord Revan wrote:then there's the thing he assumes you can control a planet by small force by controlling few "key locations" well that might work on planets that are dependent on imports on off-world goods for survival, but if the planet is like modern day earth aka self-sufficient with population in the billions and spread more or less all over the globe you might in act end up with an occupation force that's greater then the initial invasion force due the area they need to cover to maintain control.Connor MacLeod wrote:I'd love to see this guy try to argue 'orbital dominance' over a planet like Tallarn in 40K, where the surface is basically irradiated wasteland and everyone lives in sealed habitats belowground.

Please do not make Americans fight giant monsters.
Those gun nuts do not understand the meaning of "overkill," and will simply use weapon after weapon of mass destruction (WMD) until the monster is dead, or until they run out of weapons.
They have more WMD than there are monsters for us to fight. (More insanity here.)
