The Christmas special generally airs on Christmas, hence the name.

Is twelve going to regenerate in the Christmas special? I thought Matt Smith signed on for one more special after that and then they switch to Capaldi.

I thought he was only around for the Christmas special but I admit I've not been paying close attention.

Christmas is the last of the 11th stories. Filming on S8 starts shortly afterwards. Some rumours around that it may be another split series like 7, which I would dislike immensely.

I feel like Doctor Who is always on the way / never here, which is partly why I stopped watching.

[Good news everyone!
Doctor Who's next series will air as one complete run, Steven Moffat has confirmed.

The BBC sci-fi drama's seventh run was split across two years, with six episodes airing in 2012 and eight in 2013.

However, there will be "no split" for Peter Capaldi's first series as the new Doctor, showrunner Moffat confirmed at a BFI event yesterday (December 8).

The new series of Doctor Who is expected to air on BBC One from August 2014, following Capaldi's official debut in this year's Christmas special, 'The Time of the Doctor'.
