I'm not sure the timescale involved would be long for humans to 'adapt', exactly. I imagine a state of panicked confusion - we're very good at that - followed by a severe shakeup of society at both the international and interpersonal levels. Whether for better or for worse, who can say? But I'm inclined to think it would be the latter.

And it's not just timescale that's the issue, it's the severity of the bad times before the adaptation. "Humans adapt" is a trivial statement, it can mean anything, starting from the bare survival of humanity after nuclear war and huge social changes to...delegating some of our communication to computers or working through them as a loophole.
