Computer Problem.

I have a rather baffling computer problem.

Every few minutes to as much as an hour, I lose my internet connection. And when this happens, my computer just hangs for several seconds to several minutes.

By borrowing a laptop, I have determined it is ONLY my computer.

MSE, Malware Bytes and Spybot all claim my machine is clean and apparently my drivers are up to date.

This problem developed a few days ago after clearing out some "re-markit" malware that managed to get on my machine.

Is cleansing it with fire an option?

Update:

In a moment of frustration, I decided to disconnect my computer from the LAN, deciding that I'd rather have a stable non-internet machine than one this unstable.

The moment it did that, the "wireless networks available" thing popped up. I realized the laptop had used those, so I tried it.

Zero problems so far.

I'm wondering if the cable got damaged or the ethernet card has gone bad.

One or the two, or your modem's LAN ports may have been fried. That last happens especially easy if there are blackouts or power spikes. Try with a different network cable and if the problem still persists, it's either the ethernet card or the modem. If you can test with another modem and the problem goes away, it's the box. If the problem still appears with different cable and different modem, it's the network card.
