Freakin scary movie! Hardest movie to sit through as you watch terrorist after terrorist attack, and how the US army deals with it.

Was amazed when the USA Network aired it like a few months after 9/11. Maybe they were suggesting something? Anyways, a good movie, shame we couldn't do that in real life.

Declare Martial Law and move in the army? It's been done before.

Draft riots in New York during the Civil War, they suspended habeus corpus back then and actually shot the rioters to kingdom come. And National Guards were called in during the LA riots to protect the rich neighborhoods.

The National Guard is not the same as the US Army when it comes to this. Legally they can be called by a state governor to aid local police forces. This happens quite a lot. The US Army cannot intervene. Though after natural disasters troops have been sent for relief efforts.

However Federal troops where employed to suppress rioting in Baltimore, New York and I believe Philadelphia during the American Civil War. Lincoln got a lot of heat for it, but there wasn't much of an alternative.

I thought it was a great movie, they played it here as soon after 9/11 as they could. I liked that the American villain had a French name.

What amuses me is an old review of it...

I only recall LAV-25's, which of course are not used by the US Army, let alone its armor less Light Divisions.

I think some movie looked prophetic,in 1984 the movie Best defense with Dudley Moore and Eddy Murphy there is the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq and a few years after it happened,so the event in The siege might happens :?
