No, the Ballad of the Army fits it's role quite well.Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi wrote:I say keep hte Star-Spangled Banner as he national anthem, and make the Imperial March the anthem of the army, or something like that.
Of course, I'm assuming this isn't a joke. In that case, I say we write a new national antem, and call it "Suck it, France".
What should the US anthem be?

I agree. Do not replace the Star Spangled Banner. I doubt you'll find many in the US Military who disagree with me.Alyeska wrote:A national anthem should inspire pride in a country and have to do with its history. Midnight Oil's US Forces
US forces give the nod
It's a setback for your country
Bombs and trenches all in rows
Bombs and threats still ask for more
Divided world the CIA
Who controls the issue
You leave us with no time to talk
You can write your own assessment
Sing me songs of no denying
Seems to me too many trying
Waiting for the next big thing
Will you know it when you see it
High risk children dogs of war
Now market movements call the shots
Business deals in parking lots
Waiting for the meat of tomorrow
Everyone is too stoned to start emission
People too scared to go to prison
We're unable to make decisions
Political party line don't cross that floor
L. Ron Hubbard can't save your life
Superboy takes a plutonium wife
In the shadows of Ban the Bomb we live
Sing me songs of no denying

Writing the God stuff out of Battle Hymn of the Republic would make a cool anthem. But I'm a Georgia fan, so I'm partial to that one.

I don't personally think that "The Star Spangled Banner" celebrates America as well as some of the other patriotic songs we have. Plus it's a bitch to sing. I don't think I'd mind if it was changed to "America the Beautiful" or something.
Not that this is really an issue, of course. *shrugs*
At least the Banner is more interesting than "Advance, Australia Fair." Bleh.

Yes, I like it as well. I often catch myself signing it. It'd make a good anthem minus the God parts.Durran Korr wrote:Writing the God stuff out of Battle Hymn of the Republic would make a cool anthem. But I'm a Georgia fan, so I'm partial to that one.

I think Ride of the Valkyries will work better for a tank battalion (I always keep an MP3 of it handy for tank rampages in GTA, mwahaha).

Very minor nitpick, Zaia. The song is simply called "America."Zaia wrote:I don't personally think that "The Star Spangled Banner" celebrates America as well as some of the other patriotic songs we have. To those who think the anthem should be changed to Imperial March. How would you like to have people stand and place their hands on their chests in attention to the American flag at sporting events and suddenly Imperial March is played. Hell, even the Olympics. A national Anthem is supossed to embody more then just the military might of a country. It must contain the spirit and show its history.
The Star Spangled Banner might be a bitch of a song to sing, but when you get a really good singer to do the song, it comes out so good that it makes you proud to be an American and have that flag. Imperial March will do no such thing.

Needless to say you've seen the Evangelion AMV for that song feat. Gendo Ikari? Its quite entertaining, problem is that the Republicans holding office are supposedly the moral majority and soooo christian. (fuck dat shit)Darth Utsanomiko wrote:Oh, oooh! I got one!
Kiss Me, Son of God, by They Might Be Giants. That'd rock.
"Do the Evolution" would fit nice, as would MacFarlanes accompanying animations.
Machine head would be fun, team that up with some CNN coverage. And of course, Bombs over Baghdad.

Alyeska is right about the National Anthem though. Every time I hear those words and imagine the setting they were composed in I can only have respect for my flag.

The U.S. National Anthem.
Here are the full lyrics to our current one. We normally only sing one stanza, but there is more:
I think it's quite appropriate, actually, thank you very much.Oh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, now conceals, now discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines on the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! O long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wiped out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner forever shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
