Unless he flies mision, but he's probably too old, right? If he isn't he will be fine. Unless the Iraqi's have Patriot missles out of the ass the Nimitiz is safe.

Is he flying a plane stationed on the Nimitz or is he a navy personnel aboard the Nimitz?

I doubt the carriers will receive much, if any, enemy fire during the battle.

He's an enlisted officer. He's 41, CPO, MM1. I know that carriers won't get too much flack, but I worry still. It's my family, as much as I can't stand him, or all the stuf he's denied me and put me through.

I'd say 1000 to 1 is probably a fair estimation unless we get bogged down fighting in cities or suicide bombers are particularly effective.

Bush's speech was...interesting at least. It's kind of disturbing that he can be so charismatic about this; if I were less familiar with the issues I'd be totally convinced that a war is the right thing, and that it's great that we're holding people without trial based on secret evidence and expelling Americans for alledged ties with Iraqi intelligence.

Iraq isn't likely to get anywhere near our carriers. They're protected more than any ship in the fleet and they're not likely to get anything near them

Uhh, no. If one talks to the average Arab they're fully aware that Saddam is a vicious thug. The average Arab backs Saddam merely because they happen to hate the US more than they hate Saddam.

government propaganda works wonders. Say what you will about US press bias, they ARE the one of the most free presses in the world. A helluva lot freer than the Middle Eastern press, anyways.

Seriously though, how many people in the ME would you say have a good idea and understanding of what life is like in the United States? I would say outside of Israel, that number wouldn't be very high.

Americans are generally pretty ignorant about the way of life in other countries, and alot of people outside the US don't really understand what life in the US is like as well. I think that ignorance works both ways, and sets the stage for misunderstandings.

A US carrier hasn't be hit in action since 1945, and there has not be a major accident since 1967. As I recall, Nimitz is steaming to Korea anyway. Neither Iraq nor North Korea have much of any anti shipping capability. And what they do have is a couple generations out of date.
