Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
I think the problem with the artwork is mostly in the arms. See, OoTS heads are circles, which are at least vaguely the right shape for a humanoid head. And the torsos are rectangles, again at least vaguely the right shape.
But OoTS arms are a few inches wide and bend in unnatural places- they do NOT look remotely humanoid, they look like skinny tentacles that end in three-tendrilled manipulator pitchfork-thingies. Which we could overlook when they were just a single black stick figure line, but they become much more conspicuous when they're colored in and made a little thicker (but still much thinner than natural arms).

It's what the dwarf in the flashback used as an exclamation so it's not unprecedented.

Still 'Thor's X' exclamations don't really seem what like Durkon was like. It'd be good if the team did cotton on eventually.
But then again, I may just not be remembering Durkon's speech patterns very well.

Nah he's used stuff like "Thor's taint" before so it's not exactly out of character.Crazedwraith wrote:Still 'Thor's X' exclamations don't really seem what like Durkon was like. It'd be good if the team did cotton on eventually.

The hands still bother me the most.
Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
I agree. Using sticks for unclothed limbs and only going beyond that for sleeves and trousers would have been my approach.Spekio wrote:The hands still bother me the most.

Well, V seems to be back to V's old self, or a reasonable approximation thereof.

Wouldn't CoC just destroy the engine?
Also, I like how V pretty much stopped using evocation spells in favour of party buffing spells as a part of 'character development' and now has full load again
Upon thinking, did this strip serve any purpose that wouldn't be filled by a single panel?

Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Cold damage only does 1/4 of its usual damage to items, and then still must beat the item's hardness. Ironically, this means that according to RAW Cone of Cold would do 0 damage to anything made of wood or metal but 4-5 points of damage to a block of ice.Irbis wrote:Wouldn't CoC just destroy the engine?
Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Ah, thanks. That information appeared to be left out of SRD at first glance. Still, even at 1/4 you're looking at about ~14 points of damage, and that if V didn't empowered or maximized it. IIRC it's enough to beat hardness of 10, though 3-4 damage wouldn't be much, agreed.Grumman wrote:Cold damage only does 1/4 of its usual damage to items, and then still must beat the item's hardness. Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
I think part of the problem is that Burlew's planning to start a new book of the comic with these strips, so he's taking an unreasonably large amount of time to introduce certain characters.Irbis wrote:Wouldn't CoC just destroy the engine?

As to the character development... I think V never really totally abandoned evocation spells, but simply resolved to spread out and become a bit more versatile. We'll see.

Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
You don't have to cast a spell at your full caster level, only something above the minimum caster level. Cone of Cold is a 5th level spell, so V can cast it as a CL 9 spell, for ~31-32 damage, reduced to ~7-8 damage before hardness.Irbis wrote:Still, even at 1/4 you're looking at about ~14 points of damage, and that if V didn't empowered or maximized it.

Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
The last story arc ended dull because Tarquin had become boring, then there was a long gap, and now we're having strips full of relatively mundane stuff. The changed art style and... something indefinable... suggest that Burlew is trying to make the strip more 'dramatic.' Which is arguably not a good thing.
I hope things get more exciting soon.

So why is the propellers being off, be making them descend when they're in an airship. Unless I'm mistake the great big bag on top is providing the lift. Not the propellor.

Julio Scoundrel and everything he touches is about the rule of drama. It doesn't have to be logical, it has to be dramatic.

I am amused that there were two people on the rope, holding onto it with all their might, but Roy is holding it with ease, as it if was the string to a helium balloon.
