Ever look through your old posts?

They can provide pretty good markers on where your mind was at that time. I used to be such a little prick just 3 years ago...
Anyone else get embarassed at their old shit?

Oh, hell yes, I get embarrassed about some shit both here and other places. There's a reason I like using an alias as opposed to my real name.

But other times I go back and I'm real proud of a well done argument or precise phrasing. I revisit old discussions I enjoyed having, topics I'm thinking about again, I'm always doing vanity searches on the boards I frequent.
A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. Leonard Nimoy.

Now I did a job. I got nothing but trouble since I did it, not to mention more than a few unkind words as regard to my character so let me make this abundantly clear. I do the job. But yeah, it's funny when I read back at my old posts and think, "God, what a fucking troll."

Heh, I still have my moments. It must be kind of cool/sobering for the long-time members to do it, having a decade or so worth of posting to look back upon.

Well, it's something. I just realized I've been here for twelve years. It's slightly unnerving to read my older posts, truth be told.

I'm getting old and becoming more & more like my dad. This is a fucking scary thought.

I looked at some of my first ones from 2010 (jesus that was a while ago) and damn was I aggressive. I'd spent ages lurking here so I figured being aggressive alpha-male style poster was the way to fit in.

Luckily uni mellowed me out some so I'm no longer so bitter and twisted. Plus I realised you guys are really accepting so I didn't have to "fit in," I could just be me.

His older posts probably remind him how long he's been trying to get that threesome with his wife and her sister.

It's also fascinating looking through the HoS archives. Invasions by Nazis, paedophiles, brain-dead bodybuilders...sometimes I think I was born a little too late - the internet seemed so much more fun/disturbing back then

Jedi-Outcast.com was the first forum I signed up on. It was a sad day when it closed. I routinely check(ed) my posting history to go over my arguments or just general opinions. But here, my posting is sporadic at best. For the most part though, I do well for myself because I don't like offering opinions of shit I don't know all that well.

One thing I hate is seeing a decent post I've written marred by me forgetting something at the time or not knowing about it. Also is when I catch a reply to one of my posts months/years after the fact. I'd necro a few threads on this forum if it'd do anything constructive.

All the time, particularly in the newer Honorverse and Rifts threads where there's specific old information I'm trying to get for comparison purposes.

Oh, I was definitely a miserable little shit back then. Some people would probably argue I'm still one, now.

I don't think my behavior on THESE forums was ever all that bad, though there are some things I was definitely guilty of: idiotic over-aggressive posturing on subjects I didn't know that much about, unnecessary flaming, pointless +1 posts with terrible jokes, some horrible logic in some arguments I waded into, etc.

However, not long ago I went back and found the DiceTroll forums, which had been the first Internet forums I ever joined (back when they were called BlackOrc). That was back in 2002. Reading through my first posts over there was super depressing. I was such an ass for any number of reasons.

Absolutely.

It took me until the beginning of season 2 to discover just how magical friendship could be, after all. Very embarrassing indeed.

Sometimes I go searching for old posts to re-educate myself on a mostly forgotten subject, other times I stumble on an old post by accident. Either way, I generally walk away impressed when my old self was knowledge-dumping, and embarrassed when the subject was politics or relationships. I don't think my psyche could handle re-reading flame wars that I took part in.

Not intentionally, but having looked at my post count, I do wonder how I accumulated so much and how much dumb shit I must have written given most of them were made before I went to university.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
