True enough. I don't know so much about those because they're harder to get for free. My guess is that the outside of the box pretty much tells you what you're getting into though; if they're trying to sell demon tentacle snuff porn, they're going to advertise to their intended audience instead of risking haveing a ...er, relative innocent stumble upon it and getting furious and demanding their money back and never buying or renting hentai again.
I think it's pretty similar for lolita stuff, (if there's a wide-eyed secondary-sexless school girl [or boy] on the cover that's probably a good warning sign) but then that's not my area of expertise.

True, true, from what I've hentai animes are usually the tamest in relation to the other formats. I really do love the fact for anime (G-R rated) and hentai (NC-17-X rated) they almost always list what unsuitable materials there is in the show. While hollywood movie boxes don't say shit what's in the movie. I speaking of movies I haven't already seen before buying, renting or borrowing.

Doujinshi and fanart are one of the major reasons I am not very fond of hanging around other anime fans. Imagine if 20% of all Lord of the Rings fan-made works were pornographic, and quite a bit of it was sick fetish crap (or if 40% of fans were completely incapable of telling fan-made work from official material, and you had to tell them things like "No, the comic that was done a crude Marvel-like style, with word balloons in Korean, about Arwen with DDD-cups sucking off Frodo was *NOT* drawn by Tolkien, nor anyone accociated with any publishers.").

Of course, to continue the analogy, it wouldn't help that 3/4 of all fans either are convinced they live in Middle Earth, use the books as there one and only hobby and social outlet, have only read the first chapter and have no idea what everyone they hang out with is talking about, are convinced that Saruman and Sauron are gay lovers and tell everyone that the books are allegory of the Vietnam war, only reads/talks about furry LotR fanfics, refuses to talk about anything except how kick-ass they think Legolas is, or turns out to only be using the books because they're using Hobbits as an outlet for their midget fetish.

So if anything, don't blame fans like me; we're just surrounded by a lot of crazy escapists!

EDIT: that reminds me, back on one of the MBs I used to frequent, Gundam Watch (became too much of a Net Rat nest, after a while), there was this 19-year-old guy who insisted on mentioning his interest in 'lolicon', and that he had a major thing for Sakura. It varies with the artist, some do make them older (Sailormoon, Eva, Harry Potter oddly enough ) while others make them younger, (Love Hina, Harry Potter).
