This isn't plausible, it's more likely to be drama, but- maybe they've lost some lift for one reason or another, and are relying on engine thrust to keep themselves at constant altitude?
Nah, not physically likely.

It could be something like this - an airship that uses a smaller envelope for its weight, and uses engine power to compensate.Simon_Jester wrote:This isn't plausible, it's more likely to be drama, but- maybe they've lost some lift for one reason or another, and are relying on engine thrust to keep themselves at constant altitude?

Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Seems plausible. Presumably Thor knows what's happened, if he's paying any attention at all.
IF.
The immediate short-term effect is that Durkula will be expected to do something about the storm, and he can't, because there's little chance that his weather control magic (if any) will be up to a storm that at least seems to be a divinely sent threat.

Any cleric of that level can control weather to an extent. But frankly, all he needs to say is "I dennae prepae ane weathere spelle todaye" or something.
What I wonder is what is the storm's purpose for narrative reasons, and I really hope it isn't "padding until writer comes up with what to do next".

Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Wrecking the airship so the Order doesn't have good travel options sounds like a good reason to me. There's no rules for how cool a ship you're allowed to have at a certain level is there? Like when their treasure horde got blown up.
Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Even if he wasn't using magic to control the weather, the weather should then be acting naturally, and not acting in an unnatural manner specifically to inconvenience them. A cleric of the God of Thunder should not have to worry about the God of Thunder taking pot-shots at him.Irbis wrote:Any cleric of that level can control weather to an extent. Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Well, there's a good chance that Durkula will accidentally arouse suspicion by how he handles this. In life Durkon was a cleric of Thor; he would have very predictable responses to the idea that Thor's storm is interfering with their quest, and to his failure to memorize Control Weather today.Irbis wrote:Any cleric of that level can control weather to an extent. This is the first time since his turning that Durkula's really been on the spot to act exactly like the real Durkon ought to, I think.

Yes, that's why Durkula's sole comment so far is "Crap", and why Durkon has a HUGE smirk on his face. The next two comics Durkula's gonna blow his cover wide the fuck open.

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Well... Judging by this comic Durkula can invent whatever explanation he likes, like say it's overenthusiastic victory shower, and no one will be able to contest itLadyTevar wrote:Yes, that's why Durkula's sole comment so far is "Crap", and why Durkon has a HUGE smirk on his face. Although to be fair that was like 900 strips ago, and the Order was goofier and less tactically savvy back then.

I don't think Durkula's cover can be blown wide open this early in the arc. He's going to weasel his way out of it. The cracks are going to appear. And think Belkar's going to be the most suspicious given his prior inclinations and the fact none of the other team will listen to him.
Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
He's wearing a Belt of Giant Strength. Of course, that doesn't make him any heavier, so you'd think the rope would just pull him off the deck.LadyTevar wrote:I am amused that there were two people on the rope, holding onto it with all their might, but Roy is holding it with ease, as it if was the string to a helium balloon.

Yeah, Nitram called that one. It is a basic Priest Spell, why not take it.

Indeed, however it is takig us 2 weeks for new strips, and this one makes the previous one pointless. Any good DM would make the spell fail when in contest with a god's will. Shitty pacing, Imo.

Not like we've seen a real result from the spell. It's still raining. Need a new comic.Spekio wrote:Indeed, however it is takig us 2 weeks for new strips, and this one makes the previous one pointless. Any good DM would make the spell fail when in contest with a god's will. Shitty pacing, Imo.

You mean I called it?LadyTevar wrote:Yeah, Nitram called that one. It is a basic Priest Spell, why not take it.
But I am not sure what the plot purpose of that is still. Either the spell works, and we wasted month of updates on pointless 3 page joke, or it doesn't and current page was one off joke that could have been delivered in 4 panels.Irbis wrote:Any cleric of that level can control weather to an extent.
Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Has this comic ever had someone cast Control Weather and not turned it a cheap gag?
Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
Control Weather takes twenty minutes to take effect. Even if it works, it's no way to win an argument.Gaidin wrote:Not like we've seen a real result from the spell. It's still raining. Need a new comic.
