Will you get off of this nitpick? He wasn't trying to pass Bush off as an angel, he was just saying that the real shithead in this situation is Saddam, not Bush. Not an unreasonable observation, given that in many ways Bush gets worse press than Saddam."Out of these two choices" would be a false dilemna. Both Bush and Saddam could be bad, and we don't have to believe either. His point is completely meaningless.

Having no point is not a nitpick. If he wanted to say "Saddam is a bad guy", he could have said that. Instead he chose a phrase who's ONLY purpose was to criticize people who don't agree with or give "bad press" to Bush.Durran Korr wrote: Will you get off of this nitpick? No, it really doesn't, because it's a viewpoint that essentially ignores history.

Some people need to get their asses laid as opposed to doing a point by point rebuttal on the words of a comedian. Lighten up, it's a freakin' piece of comedy, hell you might as go write up 10,000 word essays on the comics in the morning paper while you're at it. Fuckin' christ this shit is getting retarded. Go find something more worthwhile to do instead of turning ever fuckin' thread into a political lecture flamefest.

Listen, if this was all about oil, Bush would just be lobbying to drop the sanctions against Iraq, not for an all-out war with it.
Although I do have a solution for all the American anti-war activists who are so convinced that this war is all about oil. Join the Congressional Republicans in supporting Bush's plan for drilling in Alaska. That way, we'll be able to get some cheap oil from within our own borders without going to war. Problem solved!

First off, thanks Kelly. It was funny. Miller is one of my favorites.
Second, If you want to pick apart some commentary, try picking apart some real talking heads and/or real politicians. MFG, its a COMEDIAN using current events for a laugh. Yes, I have heard Miller actualy give a statement or position, but this is a fucking joke not a political statement. Drundals thread with Miller on Real Time was ripe to pick apart for instance. Miller made statements (along with some scripted jokes) and were meant to be his position, not his act. Choose your battles, sheezzzzz.
All sides are guilty of this, alot of people posted negitively to the letter from the Canadian a while back that was making fun of America. You know what, IT WAS FUNNY. Some of the shit posted about Bush is funny and I support Bush (the pic of him and the book upside down are priceless). Get a grip and have a fucking laugh once in a while, debate in serious threads and leave the comedy free from ideological bullshit. If you don't think its funny, fine. But quite acting like its the front line of the war of idea's or something.

They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

Yes, drop the sanctions against Iraq so that they are free to restrict production along with Opec. Bush wants military control of Iraq so that the supply is increased and he gets lower prices.Durran Korr wrote:Listen, if this was all about oil, Bush would just be lobbying to drop the sanctions against Iraq, not for an all-out war with it.

Drilling in Alaska would be a massive environmental disaster, and if you don't see why that is a bad thing, there's really not much hope for you.

Graeme, I've been to Saskatoon, about this time of the year you need to get out and get some warm sun!! I winter has frozen your leftist brain.. Bush does not want the military to control Iraq.. The lefts paranoia is growing as the war draws nigh..
Sudden power is apt to be insolent, sudden liberty saucy; that behaves best which has grown gradually.
Saskatoon happens to be my codename in management 201

I'm frankly a little surprised that Miller would do this instead of one of his trademark comedic rants, which are always much funnier and more eloquent.

If you re-read my post, I'm pointing out the irony of using rhetoric to cut through the rhetoric. Mr.Miller, even though a comedian, is not aware of his own rhetoric. This required me to actually point out the rhetoric.Knife wrote: Second, If you want to pick apart some commentary, try picking apart some real talking heads and/or real politicians. Seems like a bunch of *other* people I won't name seemed keen on defending Mr.Miller's comedical pro-war speech.
Sorry for having an opinion. *sigh*

Unfortunately, Colin Powell has stated repeatedly that control of the Iraqi oil reserves will be transferred to the new Iraqi government. This isn't just some vaguely hinted-at rumor, this is a high-profile public committment.Yes, drop the sanctions against Iraq so that they are free to restrict production along with Opec. Bush wants military control of Iraq so that the supply is increased and he gets lower prices.
Lower prices for oil are always going to be good for consumers.Of course, the better solution would be to realize that you don't need more oil.
Drilling in Alaska would be a massive environmental disaster, and if you don't see why that is a bad thing, there's really not much hope for you.
Take a doormat and poke a couple of holes in it with a pin. This is an analogy for the "environmental damage" that will occur if the Bush plan is put through.

Amen to that. Comedians don't do stuff like that because it reflects their views, they do it becasue they think it will make people laugh. And in this case, it was more offensive for some than funny.aerius wrote:Some people need to get their asses laid as opposed to doing a point by point rebuttal on the words of a comedian.
